Router does not support VPN. What can I do?

I have a router from AT&T that does not support VPN. I am using ExpressVPN right now for some things I'm doing, but when I have it enabled, it really slows the connection down when I open up UI3 to the point it is unusable. Any idea why that would slow it down so much? I know open VPN is the way to go, but without the router to support it, I am trying other things. Please help me out with my issue if you want to before you bash me about using the ExpressVPN and how it won't help with my cams. Thanks.

I assume you have the ATT modem/router combination device, there are a couple ways to get openVPN:

1) get another router with openVPN ability, put your ATT modem/router into passthrough mode and connect your new router and set up openVPN on it.

2) Get a Raspberry Pi and install Rasbian OS, then install openVPN or WireGuard using piVPN:

So you know express VPN is useless because it’s not the type of VPN you need and its doing nothing for you but you chose to pay for it anyways.

I've got a 30 day trial. I use it for many purposes other than cams right now. I'm just trying to learn and get some insight is all. I'm trying to pic peoples brains that have knowledge. Thanks.

It does nothing for you except slow you down and put your browsing info into the hands of a third party instead of your isp. Worthless.

As far as your second question, the question itself indicates you dont understand what openvpn does/is. Please read the wiki on securing your network.

My general VPN post
There are two types of VPN, do not get them confused.
The type depends on where the traffic conversation (traffic) originates

1) origination: local home network, destination the internet.
This type of VPN purpose to hides your activity from the internet, it is outbound, it normally costs a monthly fee to use. Direction is from your home PC to the internet, going to your bank, google, porn sites,,,, this not what you want. This VPN uses a VPN server that is in the middle of your communications.

2) Origination: the internet world wide web, destination: your home network.
This VPN type is used to provide a secure connection onto your local network, in bound to you local home network, from your office computer, your cell phone in your car, tablet at the coffee shop.. This is what you want, it does not have a monthly fee and is normally completely free. OpenVPN is this type of VPN.

If you home internet provider is a cellular network, then DDNS (dynamic Domain Name System) may not work, the DDNS is needed for most Inbound VPN services (OpenVpn), so OpenVPN may not work for you.
