AI can be a great benefit to the world, but like all things, it will likely end up being used more negatively than for the benefit of society. I really hate the AI marketing phone calls, texts and emails which seem to have rolling accounts, because no sooner do you block them, you get another of the same flavor from the same user with a different account.
I highly doubt this message is from someone in the US, more likely China or Russia.
