Should I bother upgrading firmware?

Getting the hang of it

So I have the Nelly's OEM version of the 4k Hikvision Turrets. My NVR is providing the PoE to the cameras, so they are on their own virtual subnet.. Is there really any reason to upgrade the firmware?

I'm all about being proactive, but I'm wondering if this is a case of if it ain't broke, don't mess with it!

TIA!

If it is not broken do not fix it !!!!!

What is the specific reason to up grade? What is broken that the upgrade will fix?

Read the posts about the number of bricked cameras after an firmware upgrade.

i have 16 cams to upgrade, I can do them but they are mounted and If I'm suppose to do these outside the POE switch meaning I need to go up to each mounted cam and plug in power and it's difficult to do. Some are on top of buildings.

MY PCNVR is open to the router, nothing else. if my PCNVR is secure I'm assuming my cams are safe. If I'm really concerned I can always put the cams behind a VPN and turn off outside access only with a VPN, I still think this is easier then upgrading 16 cams.

If I am able to upgrade through the POE then I may do it, because it's about 5-10 min a cam, once you figured one out the others are easier.

your pc nvr is not secure. You should be using a vpn. Even if you upgraded your cams to the latest firmware they are not secure.

why update, if you have a good network security setup, there is no need to upgrade the cameras. My cameras are completely isolated from the internet.

like what? I never noticed any new features other then the new interface, fix in the security hole and .... a required strong password.

DS-2CD2035-I V5.5.53 build 180716 how offen do you upgrade? I can't find any update version of firmware for my chinese camera. I never break anything by upgrade firmware.

You have what is called update OCD. The solution is not constant updating of cameras but rather treatment by a medical professional.
