snow, sleet, rain, and IR

Apologize if this has already been covered but I didn't find anything after a quick search.

At night, snow, sleet, and rain combined with IR illumination can make the camera view look like the old Windows starfield screen saver (like this, but vertical:

) and trigger tons of alerts.

What are the best approaches for dealing with this?

Yep, there are some threads here about it.

Turn off internal IR and add external IR can eliminate or significantly reduce it.

Force the camera into color can help as well.

Use AI in the camera or the VMS.

Nature of the beast. Same with spiders and crap getting attracted to the IR lights

I'm not using AI yet, but is that also a mitigation? Seems like it would be... interested in how well it does in this use case.

Yes, AI can do wonders as well.

I will give you a preview, during a blizzard, my old NVR would have been triggering all night. My AI camera only triggered when there was an actual person in the field of view:

Do keep in mind that if you use Deepstack or SenseAI, with a lot of cameras constantly triggering and sending to AI, it could overload a system if it isn't capable, so something to keep in mind as well.
