A coworker has a Speco system from a few years back... a handful of their IP cameras with one of their PoE NVRs. He's had minimal problems with them, but they don't support the advanced Dahua motion detection (IVS) which could greatly help him reduce false motion alerts. And when it comes to adding new cameras to his kit, Dahua still doesn't seem to let resellers like Speco have access to their super-popular (well, on here anyway) ultra-low light Starlight models.
He has no major gripes about Speco, but he's in the process of switching over to Blue Iris <Speco no longer updates the firmware of his NVR and he's run into issues with it trying to send emails via Google> and over to Starlight cameras for the better low-light images.
For me, two big advantages to BI are (1) it can do its own motion detection (so you get the same capabilities across any cameras you use with it, which means you can mix and match camera brands and have great advanced motion detection across all of them .. something a regular NVR can't do), and (2) that it's constantly under development. Between smaller new features and bug fixes, there are usually new BI releases every few weeks.
