Hello and thanks,
Was wondering if I am doing something wrong as I have been reading about performance, etc. for different camera setups.

I am using a Lenovo X1 Carbon w/ a 250gb HD running 2 Dahua Starlight cameras.

When I log into the Dahua UI I see CPU at 95%, Mem at 88, Disk at 17 and FPS at 10

I am running 24/7 recording with a 6 second pre trigger and combining video's every 1 hour or 4GB

For video and compression I have selected Blue Iris DVR and Direct to Disc recording.

Not sure if there is any other info you might need to help out but I was thinking of getting a 1TB external HD to offload some of the clips as the way it is set up now is taking up around 40GB every 16 hours.

I am looking to run 24/7 recordings and trying to get 10 days of video which I can not do now..

IF any other info is needed I will post but not sure what else might help.

Thank you

CPU usage and disk space are separate issues. With regards to disk space are you running VBR or CBR, and what is your bitrate set to?

Thank, and yes these are 2 different issues I am having.
Using VBR
Bitrate 4096
FPS 14

I have substream enabled but not really sure what that is for.. I am using best practices from the WIKI.

Is resolution a factor here? I am at 3072*2048 for camera 1 and 1920*1080 for cam 2 --cam 1 is 6mp and 2 is 2 MP i think..I have a huge lag on cam 1

Are the cameras hardwired or WiFi ? Is he laptop hardwired or WiFi ?
A lap top real does not have the structure or design for 24/7 operation. As they heat up they get slower.
Where is the lag showing up ?

Are the cameras and laptop connected to the same switch ? Not the router.
Are the cables purchased or home built ?
What are the symptoms of the lag , how do you know there is a lag ?
If the CPU is as 90% that may be that cause of the lag ?
Are the cameras using H.264 or H.265 ?
I am not knowledgeable with the Dahua UI. Why are you using this and BI ?
What is the CPU load with BI as a service, not running the BI user interface ?
Are the cameras using VBR or CBR ?
What is the Iframe value ?
What is the MAX BIT rate or the cameras ?
Are the sub streams enable on the cameras ?

I think I solved a lot of my problems by cleaning up this laptop and disabling a ton of services as well as windows updates which resets everything..also somewhat followed the wiki settings..

Now from the BI web interface I am
CPU 34
MEM 37
Disk 10
FPS14

My last questions are:
1. should I be using 264 or 265? currently using 264
2. VBR vs CBR .. currently VBR

thank you

If you are using an intel processor, with quicksync use h.264. Enable BI hardware acceleration. Make sure you have the current intel drivers.
Use VBR .

It is strongly recommended to do a clean windows install before installing BI.
