He just did a video on NDAA and talks about the exploits, backdoors, and keeping cameras off the internet and using a VPN and is probably his best video and folks are ripping him new ones. Yet they rave on his reolink videos LOL.

Can anyone clarify which cameras would require FCC certification? It seems like the commissioner of the FCC should know better than a YouTuber what he is and is not responsible for.

Meeting FCC regulations for an RF device has nothing to do with computer/network based vulnerability. The FCC is primarily interested in RF output levels, harmonics (spurious emissions) and other matters related to the radio portion of the spectrum. They could care less what the firmware allows in terms of "holes".

Basically nobody that subscribes to his channel is our intended market LOL.

And that is why the YouTuber's pushout their junk and we sit back and laugh and get all the video captures they only wish they could get LOL.

In all seriousness though, I realize that on a forum like this people take privacy more seriously, and I grew up in a culture of trading privacy for "free" utilities. That said, video of my new daughter Liberty sleeping isn't worth anything, neither is the back of my wife's head. Images of me doing yard work likewise have no value. Everyone using Google, or Facebook, or Tik Tok... that's the valuable information people volunteer up. We are the primary weak-link in information privacy, not devices.

There's more than privacy issues for IT security issues associated with IP cameras / IoT devices .. so remember to look beyond the basic services the devices provide the user, as they actually may provide significant usefulness to attackers / hijackers in other ways.

( classic example is a bot net for spam / DDOS attacks / bitcoin mining / jump point to attack something else .. )

I think he's doing a better job with his videos, this one was good over all.

A couple of points I felt worth noting:

The best backdoors put in on purpose, look like they are simple software mistakes ..
( the actual software mistakes are still enjoyed and used by attackers .. who thank companies for being cheap when hiring software developers ..

These exploits would need to have the attacker access the web interface of the camera .. ( and you should not expose your cameras to the internet .. he did a good job with that note .. )

Yet, countless of people expose their cameras to the internet .. and numerous attackers do breech corporate networks .. how many times do we see people port forwarding?

They don't care about your video feed; they want your device to use as a bot attack or DoS attack.

They want to use your device and internet to wreak havoc. That is usually what happens here when someone has been hacked - their internet becomes slow and devices are constantly dropping offline due to the attack.

It seems like reading the comments would be one of the toughest parts of a YouTuber's job. It is necessary because you've got to understand how your audience is responding to your content. But at the same time, it has to be incredibly frustrating to have people come and shit all over you with personal attacks and contrary and sometimes irrelevant arguments, all with no evidence. Of course, evidence is unnecessary when most people reading your comments don't have the technical knowledge to even recognize that there is no evidence.

I imagine for most people, reading criticism is brutal to their ego. Somehow my personality is such that I enjoy learning more than staying in my comfort zone. As such, I prefer disagreement rather than pointless "I agree" type comments. See above where I was corrected about what the main security threat is. I got to learn something there.

Yep and unfortunately that is a skill that is apparently lacking in most of society these days.

I like you figured so what if they got the camera feed as at the time all my cams were outside seeing anything one can see from standing outside.

But I suspect the Hookup was not expecting the backlash he is receiving when he presented that video. Most of what he is saying is in agreement with what has been shared here for years.

If that is the case, then do not post ANYTHING on the internet. The whole purpose of the internet is to provide people a way to criticize others with no real consequences.

If you are an adult and work at any kind of a job, you get 'feedback' from your peers and bosses. Maybe not written for the whole world to see, so that is maybe the issue?
