The official "WTF" thread

I don't remember if it was here or in "Wall of Shame" but, here goes. After watching the hot water heater
gas line glowing red hot, I did a little research and it was REAL! It shows the ground rod everything is tied
to, might not be the best Earth Ground. It helps explain why the strangest things in the home get killed by lightning.

Now for the heart of the story. After taking a shower the other day, the hot water was not as hot as it "normal".
A few hours later, I went to run hot water at the kitchen sink. Low and behold, the water was almost instantly hot
as if there was an instant water heater under the sink. I asked the wife if she had run the water. No go there. No pipe leaks.
But, the video of the gas line glowing got me thinking. The hot water heater is grounding via the hot water pipe to ground!!!
I have a bad heating element. For $30ish I replaced them.

Thanks for the video!

It shows the copper water pipe under the slab, running the length of the
house, has a lower resistance to ground than the common and the earth ground.
The only way I know to drop the resistance of the home ground rod is to add lengths
of wire or a mesh soldered to the rod.

Some of these homes built with pex and metal gas lines in the attic seem to attract lightning
induced roof fires.

Around supper time you better be close enough to hear your Mom yell for you :)
We could go anywhere in our neighborhood and the next neighborhood over, so about a couple miles but could not play on the freeway, lol

In East Point, GA, a suburb of Atlanta, I walked 1/2 mile to kindergarten when I was 5. Of course, that was 1954 but looking back I don't think my parents should have allowed that even then.

My dad could whistle REALLY loud-- you could hear it for blocks. We'd come running like dogs...LOL

I easily roamed (mostly on bike) a mile+ radius from home at 10 yrs old. By 13 or 14-- it was the whole town-- like a 5 miles radius from home or more. What the hell.

Throw my mom in jail for life no parole.... she dropped me off at LaGuardia airport at 18 years old to Los Angles (1984).... spent 6 weeks riding a bike back to NY... bring back the death sentence for these irresponsible women.
