I have the IP or Tvi decision to make for my brothers house. IP would be my preferred choice but ££ is what matters to my brother. The extra features of IP are of no use ti him as all he wants is a 1080p observation system. Tvi suits him fine.
Run Ethernet so he can replace it later...he will want to...

What are your opinions on TVI systems? love them or hate them?
I personally have no opinions positive or negative regarding TVI systems.

Now, that being said, all readers of this post, please take note of the name of this forum. It's "ipcamtalk.com".

'Nuff said.

If there is a Tvi forum please point me in that direction.

If cabling is not a problem Average Joe residential installs can only be Tvi unless one likes to burn money.

its not burning money if you get much more functionality and redundancy. Thousands of users here have done it...

If one requires the basics Tvi is an option. If one requires more IP is the option. POC is a game changer for those on a slim budget.
I expect the price difference between the two to shorten. But for today Tvi is great value.

However I respect this forum as the best IP camera forum and will no longer post about the “other” cameras.

the forum is not limited to ip cameras...there is a place for tvi and it has been discussed many times - when retrofitting and running new lines is cost prohibitive..otherwise it is just a tool for unscrupulous installers to make more money by paying less for parts....

I have a bit of a hybrid system. I have a Hikvision DVR which also accepts IP cameras. The DVR has accusense, motion 2.0 and loads of other features that you'd get on IP cams, but with the reliability of a tvi system.

The picture quality of my 8mp tvi cameras is pretty much identical to the 4k IP cameras I have, I much prefer the tvi when viewing live on the dvr or remotely, as there's a BIG lag in the stream from the IP cams, and the PTZ function is also severely delayed.
TVI just feels like a smoother, more responsive and uncomplicated experience in my opinion. I do however like the two way audio that a couple of my IP cameras provide, HOWEVER, it makes the conversation almost pointless with such a huge delay, but it's nice to be able to listen to the video on playback, because you never know when you might need it, but you can get that over analogue, so it's not really a feature that's exclusive to IP cams.

And it's cheaper, lmby a LOT, also, I have memory cards installed in my IP cameras, and I've never had to use them. They're just sitting in there rotting, and probably not recording, although I have fault notification on, and I've not been notified that anything has gone awry, plus, if someone steals the camera, they'll have access to everything that's on the memory card, which is a bit worrying.

All being said, for home use, I'd say a bit of a combination like mine is best. You get the benefits of digital with the DVR, and TVI is much more solid and reliable, and you can add network cameras if you need to, but if I was backed into a corner, I'd definitely choose TVI any day of the week.

I hope this helps someone.
