unable to open file: 80040274 while viewing

Hi, looking for help with playing a recorded video file.

BI v4.4.2.0 x64 (latest release)
W10

When trying to view a clip, I get the message at the top of the viewer "Unable to open file: 80040274"
In my folder where the clips are saved, that file has no "duration" attribute, where as other clips do.
I can not play the file in any other player
-VLC just does nothing
-W10 Movies&TV app shows error 0xc00d36c4
-Mediaplayer shows message "WMP encountered a problem while playing the file"

Clip is obviously corrupt for some reason.
There are 4 other clips in the folder (out of 92) that are the same issues. Other 88 play no problem in any player.
Sizes are 10mb-96mb.
There are other clips that are larger and play fine (up to 200mb)

Any ideas as to what's corrupting the files?
Any idea if the files are retrievable?

One other note, the thumbnail clip in the CLIPS side window shows an image, and it looks like it could be the actual image from the clip as I see our dog setting off the motion activation.
Which tells me that the file is being access within BI to get the thumbnail.

In my experience, corrupted files like this typically comes down to three possibilities:

1. External Interference from some other software, such as AV Scanners trying to check a file as its being written and blocking the main process for some reason or another.
2. Hardware Failure, usually bad RAM or Disks.. Memtest86 and a Disk scanning tool from your manufacturer are good starting points if you suspect this.. other stability issues are also seen.
3. Abrupt Power Failure while file was being written to..

If your doing direct2disk, a bad network card or some network glitch could potentially cause it I suspect.

Recovering the data would be very tricky, unless your sure it has something important on it.. its not worth the hassle.. if its MP4 it probably was not closed correctly, use BVR instead but WMP wont play em.

To nayr's first point, make sure to exclude BI from your AV as explained in the help file networking section.
 
Hi, thanks for the quick response.

All files were in the .mp4 container format.
Local HD is 3 years old with SMART status of OK, no errors using hdtune pro.
Memtest86 showed no issues.
AV is McAfee Security Center.
-I've added the 2 files listed in the help (blueiris.exe, vlc.exe) to the Exclude list when scanning.
I need to keep the container format as .mp4 if possible.

I'll monitor the clips going forward and see if there are any more that get corrupt.

I hope, I understand what you mean.
I think I had the same prob some times.
So I tried what to do and found my way to solve it.

I opend the window with the recorded files,
right click on the mouse.
Selected all clips in this folder.
Then selected database and within this, repair/regenerate.

After this, everything was always fine.
