I have 35 cameras, some HD, some not, splits between 2 Asus ROG gaming laptops. I want to get one machine to run them all, plus add another 5 or so for a total of 40. At the same time, I want to gradually replace all of the old Foscams with better HD cameras. I want the new computer to support all cams HD.

From reading the site, I understand that I need to enable D2D recording, H.264 streams, and H.264 hardware decoding.

Could I get something under $1000 that would process all of the frames for 40 cameras?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is this 40 cameras at your house? An i7 6700 should be able to handle all 2mp cams for $500-$600 maybe less if you troll eBay.

They are on heavy drugs..those things go for about 500 regularly...you can buy a brand new gen 3 kabylake from hp for the same.
HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Desktop Computer - Intel Core i7 (7th Gen) i7-7700 3.60 GHz - 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM - 256 GB SSD - Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (English) - Tower - 1FY72UT#ABA - 00190781391418 - PCNation.com
still overpriced but that comes with an ssd and is kaby lake..

I can be patient. Not penny-pinching, but I don't want to pay hundreds too much either.
