Hi, do you think an old Core i7-2620m 8GB RAM laptop can run blue iris for recording 12 720p ip cameras using motion detection? I've read that it needs a core i7 fir running well, but I dontd know which generation is the base line.

Would a Core i7-3687U peeform better?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

That is a very low load... either with work... don't buy a laptop for this purpose,...I am assuming you already own those...

Thanks, I was about to buy one, considering the specs I thought it could work with blue iris. I have the option to record 24/7 with the windows software that comes with the cameras, but what I want is motion detection, not 24/7 recording. I'm kind of confused about processor requirements for blue iris, and want to catch a deal on ebay to use it as my NVR (nothing fancy or new, but something that serves well for that purpose on a low budget) what would you suggest?

No..laptops are a bad choice for many reasons including no room for a 3.5 drive and many dont allow auto reboot after power failure..
the i7 in those laptops are weak, they are not true i7, they are low power...also i7 is a meaningless term as you see...
buy an HP8300 or HP elitedesk with an i5-3570 or i5-4590 processor respectively....100-150...search the forum for elitedesk and optiplex...if you have a budget of 300 you can get a much more modern i5-6500 or even i5-7500 based system....

Great! That was the answer I was looking for, thank you so much. Actually my budget is around $300 so I think I can get a core i5-6500 or i5-7500. If I find something and in doubt with it, I'll ask for your advise (hope you don't mind). Thanks again for your help.

I found this, I need something small and can replace the disk in order to gain more space, do you think it can work?

Sorry, here isithe correct link.
That's why I get confused with processors, it's the same number but the T at the end makes it a wrong option, so, it won't work right?

Why do you prefer SFF or tower? Is it because of extra disk installation?

it will likely work on your low load....but its much less powerful than a sff...yes, you want room for a 3.5 inside locally..
259 is also too high for that system...just the other day i posted a link for a 7th gen i5-7500 sff for 299...

Ok, so, based on my needs (12 720p ip cameras) any system above core i5-3570 will run blue iris and will let me record with motion detection? I'm gonna use it for home purposes, and need to keep at least 15 days of recorded video, so, if I use motion detection I think I won't need much disk space, so, a tower or sff for extra disks is not a must for mem I'd rather something small. Considering that, can I use a mini pc with ssd and a core i5 3570 or above?

You don't want a mini-pc.

Great! Thanks for the info. I will make an offer.
Just to be curious, why not a mini pc? even if it has the same processor than a tower? (I don't need extra disks)
The minis don't have the same processor... also you do need roim for storage...your tiny ssd won't cut it

Ok. Woul you be able to help me find the best system for 300.00 or less? I would be running a max of 8 cameras.
