Using ip cams for exhibitions?

You can try to do it with a laptop or you can use an NVR.

The cost will be very similar.
external drive + cams + cables + poe switch + blue iris license
vs.
nvr with poe switch + 3.5" wd purple hdd + cables + cams
 
Hmm I just tried loading up blueiris software and running 4 cameras from my home dahua setup. Looks like my laptop max out at 100% cpu load constant. So looks like the laptop idea is not reliable, unless i get a newer laptop as well.

likely do to improper setup and or running as a demo...it more than likely can handle your load..did you enable direct to disk and Hardware acceleration on a LICENSED version, the demo does not support direct to disk...see the wiki on proper setup

I was testing demo software. Didn't want to buy another one to test.

that explains your problem...without direct to disk there is no way it would work...you can buy a second license from the developer for 30 dollars.
