Using VPN and can't connect from a WAN connection

PIA is only going to be used by:
  • Internet Pirates trying to avoid being disconnected by there ISP via DCMA notices, go download Game of Thrones off a torrent and you will get a nasty letter from HBO.
  • Employees trying to skirt Corporate Network Policies so they can access Facebook/Pornhub
  • Foreigners trying to subscribe to domestic video streaming services, because Netflix/Amazon/Hulu when accessed from the USA offer many times the content than say trying to access the same services from an Aussie IP..
  • Foreigners trying to skirt there state imposed internet censorship.. but usually using such a service is also illegal and could result in consequences.
  • Trolls trying to avoid being banned from forums or other internet sites
other than those reasons; it has absolutely no use..

that has its own layer of encryption, called SSL.. if the only way for anyone to access your devices from outside is to connect through a VPN Server your running on your router then its going be extremely difficult for that to happen.. dont forward ports

So by setting up a VPN Server on my router that's running DD-WRT, I will then protect any outside access to any device on my LAN/WLAN?

If you close all port forwards and the only thing listning on your WAN IP is your VPN Server; then yeah it will prevent any direct connections from outside.. however a compromised device inside your network can still open a back door for them to get into; this is where the firewall rules come into play.

Thanks @nayr and @fenderman... it's awesome to have such a great community here who are willing to help people learn. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to respond. I'm going to do some research on how to set up VPN on my DD-WRT router as well as the Firewall capability it has. PIA is out of here!
