Looks like I'd have to install a read only version of the OS. Apparently Raspberry Pi doesn't like the power being cut. Can wipe the SD card. That happens in the location where this will be installed.

That is a good practice but it's not required. Similar to your NVR it's good to avoid cutting power but 999 times out of 1000 you won't have an issue.

Highly recommend a UPS for all security camera installations, should have plenty of power to run internet router and Raspberry Pi also.
