Ok Thanks..Yes I was looking on WD website and noticed there is no 7200 purple. I will get the WD purple 8TB 5400 drives..
They have 7200 on their site now...
Model # Capacity Interface RPM Class Cache
WD121PURZ 12TB SATA 6Gb s 7200 rpm 256MB
WD100PURZ 10TB SATA 6Gb s 5400 rpm 256MB
WD101PURZ 10TB SATA 6Gb s 7200 rpm 256MB
WD80PURZ 8TB SATA 6Gb s 5400 rpm 128MB
WD81PURZ 8TB SATA 6Gb s 5400 rpm 256MB
.... more in the list on their site. According to their site 7200 rpm/256MB only starts at 8TB
I went with the WD101PURZ - 10TB / 7200rpm / 256MB - we will see how it lasts. It will be recording 24/7.
Generally, two WD purple 4TB will be less than one 8TB, two 6TB less than one 12TB. Put half your cameras on one drive, the other half on the other, and not risk losing everything when your one 10/12TB drive fails.
Also, that way you have half the bandwidth writing to each drive, instead of full bandwidth writing to one drive.
These larger capacity drives are for people running out of physical space for drives.
Great idea. Probably a better idea and thought about 2 6 TB but there was no 7200 rpm and only 5400.
I am trying to keep the BI5 Gods happy and prevent any issues by going with their Recommended Specs on the BI website:
Intel core i7 with QuickSync for hardware decoding
8GB or more RAM
Microsoft Windows 10 64 bit
nVIDIA graphics adaptor for efficient screen display
7200+ RPM drives and/or SSD drive
