What is your experience with Sentry?

That's impressive chaining BI to Amazon Rekognition on your own. We will work with BI to associate alerts to Sentry triggers as a customer configurable setting in a near-term release. Afterwards, would love to hear your feedback on our image processing. We believe we are better than Rekognition but always receptive to independent feedback.

I hope I didn't mislead you. The only thing BI has to do with me using Rekognition is to provide the external trigger through a script when motion occurs which I'm sure is what you meant by "chaining". Just wanted to make it clear that it's not direct integration at all.

I ended up shutting off the trial on my cameras. I was missing too many alerts such as cars pulling in or out of the driveway. Hoping that I will have the ability to try a trial again in the future after there has been further work on it to see if it will meet my needs.

My experience is a little strange. The check box for Sentry once set, only sticks for a while. When I check later, the check box is empty.

I am controlling BI externally through various events, such as changing profiles, enabling or disabling motion and enabling or disabling cameras. But no events have triggered in the hour since I made sure each camera had Sentry checked in the BI Trigger tab.

I have 8 cameras with 2 profiles that I want Sentry checked. Have I met some limit? I purchased a year of service.

Any ideas?

Ditto with me.

Our AI already detects vehicles but we have not turned on vehicle detection for BI. Easy to do in a future release. Appreciate the feedback.

I'm waiting for vehicle detection, too....nudge, nudge.

I have a German Shepherd dog and Sentry constantly marks the dog as a human and sends the alert.

We only integrated Sentry with SMS and Email. Are you sure the other alerts have changed because of Sentry? If so, please open a ticket on Sentry website via the chat function so we can investigate.

So I went back and checked. In fact. I turned it back on last night and did quite a bit of testing and indeed the run external program trigger is only fired when Sentry detects a human.

That said, for many, this would be the desired result and for many it wouldn't. In my case, I changed it so the two cameras in question use their own motion detection and send and http post to to my ISY where I process the triangulation timing rule and then fire off the notification from there. In this way I get what I want in both cases.

What we really need for sentry is to have another column in the alerts for each alert type for Sentry or a Sentry only check box when configuring an alert.

Also, it would be really helpful to add meta data to the SMS to indicate what kind of alert it was. Was it motion, human, vehicle, etc?

Still I applaud what you've done. It's one thing to provide a machine vision service as an API. It's another to integrate completely with an existing highly popular application. I will go ahead and purchase the one year subscription. Even though there are bugs to work out, I want to support your business and make it easier for you to improve the product.

Also, not sure if this is within the realm of possibility with your AI, but object black listing and white listing with service side stored meta data would be truly awesome. I believe Rekognition only does this with faces but it would be cool to be able to white list all of our cars and our neighbors cars based on shape, color, license plate, faces, etc to filter out those notifications. i.e. I'd like to be able to walk around my property and not have it send me notifications of myself or my family.....or do, but tag them with the known identity and then I can do my own filtering on the receiving end and apply rules like when my daughter isn't seen in one of our 6 cameras in the front within x minutes after school to notify me....again that would be a filter of my own implementation.

Bump...

When I got home tonight, I started going through the alerts for the day and noticed that Sentry is only picking up about 1 in 4. Odd thing is the ones it does pick up aren't particularly always super easy and plenty of clips with really easy no-brainer-clear-human-right-in-the-center examples aren't being tagged by Sentry.

Here are a few examples. Each clip has multiple motion events non of which were tagged by Sentry:

Also, there's a 100% failure rate any time someone pulls up in a vehicle and gets out. It's almost like there's just a single frame sent when motion detection starts which will almost always be something other than a person...in the vehicle arrival examples. Still there are other examples, like the second video above where Sentry did not mark the human.

One other very frequent issue is that the image attachments on the MMS seem to be from a point in the video either before or after the person passed through it so the image attachment doesn't show who it was.

I decided to purchase after some tweaks with my B.I. configuration.

Question: How did you manage to purchase? When I click the 'Learn More' link within the Camera>Trigger tab, my browser opens up to the page. However clicking the 'Subscribe' button does nothing at all for me. I've tried in both Edge and Chrome. Do I have to wait until my trial period expires?

Vehicle detection is already implemented on our end. We will integrate with BI as soon as possible.

Not sure what's going on here. Please reach out to Sentry directly to open a ticket if trouble remains.

We distinguish between dogs and humans. Would love to investigate further. If you open a ticket we can investigate further.

Appreciate the support and feedback. We hope to alter the alerts dialog for the next release.
