What type of IR light works best with DS-2CD2432F-IW? 940nm?

I am planning to purchase an additional IR light for use with my DS-2CD2432F-IW camera. I have read that some wavelengths do not work well with some cameras. For the DS-2CD2432F-IW does it work best with 940nm IR light?

I looked in the specs for the camera and I see nothing on this.
 
850...before you add more light, have you tried disabling smart ir or increasing the gain or brightness?
 
I am using the camera through a window and I have read that IR will not travel through glass (and its too far away anyway), so I have it turned off on the camera setting. The night time picture is acceptable considering the amount of light from street lamps, but I want to improve the picture. I am looking for an outdoor light to be placed in the area I am viewing, to illuminate it. Glad I asked, since I haven't seen many 850nm bulbs. I am not doubting you, but is there a source for 850 spec on this camera?

I assume using a 940nm bulb would be a waste of money because it would not show very well on the camera?
 
Its not that ir wont pass through glass bur rather it is reflected by the glass effectively blinding the camera. 850 is standard ir...940 is "invisible" ir that is very weak and not worth dealing with. I dont have any documentation but I assure you 850 is what you need. If you have the ability to add out door light (porch lights etc,) you may be better off with just adding natural light

Its hard to compare spec..because manufactures generally over exaggerate ..that said, the amazon illuminator lists has a greater distance...while the wrightwood unit has a wider dispersion angle...
My personal preference would be the wrightwood unit because of its small size and its more aesthetically pleasing..
As an aside since you are going to have to run power to this unit outdoor, why not just run ethernet there and install an outdoor camera?

Well... You bring up a good point about just installing another camera - but I already have pretty good coverage, I thought I would try playing around with one of these illuminators to see what they can do.

I guess I am spoiled from Amazon - they have one of the best return policies and it is nice to read the reviews from people who actually have owned/used the item

Oh, sorry @Git, the reference to installing an outdoor cam was meant for the OP who has a cam pointing out his window...That looks like a nice illuminator..the reviews say it goes about 50 feet..

btw, Git, that is not sold by amazon. Only shipped by them. (however that does mean Amazon will handle returns for the item)

I have had great results with the CMVision Illuminators (IR40, 56, 110), all 3 have been running over 2 years and not a single burnt out LED. Try and mount it a couple feet away from the camera, they attract a lot of bugs.
