Whats a good POE 8 port 1gb switch for hikvision cams?

I guess your right, get a good brand name.
how is the 100 mbps max speed worked out of the switch? the cameras have a rate of 32 Kbps ~ 16 Mbps, if it was doing its maximum rate of 16mbps, would that mean I could run 6 cams off that switch without overloading it?

You won't be able to run 6 cameras at 16mbps due to overhead. Having said that, a typical DVD is around 6mbps so with reasonable camera settings you can easily run 6 cameras on a 100mbps network assuming there aren't any other big bandwidth hoggers.

You would not be able to run 6 cameras on it anyway because only 4 of the ports are poe...(well you can but then you would need independent power)...The switch could handle 6 cameras assuming you dont max all the cameras out, which is not recommended anyway...
