I have my cameras running through a DVR which is attached to my network switch. When I am viewing the feeds from a computer it literally stops all other network traffic; web surfing grinds to a halt. Any ideas what my issue is and the solution?

What brand and model switch is it?
10/100 or 10/100/1000?
How many feeds are you watching at a time?
What are the bit rates set to on all the cameras?

With respect - not a lot of useful information with which to provide you with helpful feedback.

In addition to @justadude questions above:
From other computers too, or just the one you are viewing with?
What speed is the network card in your computer running at?
Is the computer using WiFi for the network connection.

More than likely the problem is WiFi. If not WiFi, then it is an extraordinary amount of bandwidth being used to view the live feeds, or a bad cable or network port causing a 10 Mbps link instead of 100 or 1000 Mbps.
