Hi,

I want to add LPR capability to my BI system. I need to have solid day/night LPR performance at a distance of 50 - 75' with a max camera-to-license plate angle of about 15 degrees. From my reading on this site, I see both the IPC-B5442E-Z4E and IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 cameras mentioned in LPR context. They appear to be about the same price, so which one is going to suit me best in this situation? Is there a better value choice beyond these that are equally effective?

Thanks.

I would go with the Z12 - as you noted, they are the same price, and to get plates, more zoom is better than more resolution.

Several that have tried the Z4E at 60 feet ended up replacing it with the Z12.

I use the Z12, but I also have a Z4E that I tried at 75 feet and I would not want to rely on that during the night.

Once installed, a distance of 50-75 feet ends up being 80-100 feet and you will be glad you have more zoom.
