Why are most LPR cams analog?

It seems that most purpose built LPR cams and/or systems are analog... is analog better than IP cams....?

I was searching for LPR cams via google and watched a few YouTube videos and almost every cam mentioned by the companies I looked at that were talking LPR, was analog..... I just assumed that IP cams would all be superior to most all analog cams at this point so it was confusing. So, please set me straight.

The youtube videos must be old or by crap companies trying to peddle garbage...
you dont need high res for LPR but you also dont want or need to mess with analog in 2017..
