Why does my camera connect to 52.4.144.217

Every time I log into my camera my browser connects to 52.4.144.217.

Why is this?

Is it an Amcrest cam (apparently it's an Amcrest site)? It may be checking for firmware updates, or be a service they have to provide access to the cam via the web. I've had a few cams over the years which do this sort of thing by default, which is why I now have all of my cams blocked from direct access to/from the web in the firewall.

There may be a service/setting you can change in the cameras settings to stop it.

It is an Amcrest and apparently Yusuf owns the site.

Are there any jailbreaks for cameras?

He's also the registered owner of Amcrest.com, so I'd not be too worried by that. Looks like it's all part of the Amcrest system/services.

Not sure about jailbreaking IP cams, someone else may be able to help there.

I would be concerned about any camera phoning home. This is a know issue with foscams as well that cannot be disabled.

I'll block the IP in my firewall and see what the side effects are.
