Will Q-see (Dahua) IP cameras work with Dahua NVR?

Here's my problem...

A little over two years ago I purchased a Q-see IP camera / NVR system from Tigerdirect. The system was the Q-see QC824-2 system which came with a 4 channel NVR (QC824) and 4 Q-see 1080P POE IP cameras (QCN8004B). A year after ownership, the NVR died, so I sent it in and it was fixed under warranty. I actually think they just replaced it with a refurbished unit they had in stock. Fast forward a year later and a power outage in the neighborhood frys my replacement NVR. Of course I email back and expect to get it fixed again, but this time they point out how my unit is out of warranty. The further say that even though my old one was fixed, it didn't extend any part of the warranty. When I asked if they could repair mine, they said the price would probably be more than just buying a whole new system. Pretty pissed off, I kinda left it at that and started to search around. Crazy how a stand alone NVR from Q-see is like $400 to $600, which is pretty much the same price as a complete system.

Here's today's question. During my searches of Q-see NVR's I keep running into the Dahua brand NVR's. They seem to be pretty decent and the same maker of my Q-see brand NVR and cameras. I've already checked the HDD that came out of my system and I found that the 3tb drive is still working and in good shape.

So can I buy one of the new NVR from Dahua and use my existing 1080P Q-see (Dahua made) cameras. I would probably upgrade to an 8 channel POE NVR, so I could purchase one additional Dahua 3 or 4 mp camera.

If I can use the Dahua branded NVR, is it a simple plug and play type of deal, or am I looking at major compatibility issues? Will I be able to record motion events?

Thanks,

Just so I'm clear, I would need a POE switch to plug these cameras in directly.. right? I don't haven't purchased a new NVR yet and my old Q-see NVR is dead... like... no lights, smells like sweet smoke dead.

Thanks for the help.. I used SmartPSS with my Q-see system, so I'll borrow a POE switch or injector to try the cameras out one by one.

you can use a PoE injector or usually 12v directly.

Used a 12V adapter and a separate switch was unable to see my cameras using SmartPSS. At the same time, I found a new sealed Q-see QC858 which is the 8 channel version of my NVR on ebay. Made an offer and picked it up for $175.00, which is reasonable enough for me, so I will not be moving forward with the Dahua NVR purchase. Thanks for the help.

For the record those cameras would have worked....you must have had something set wrong...make sure your NVR is plugged into a quality surge protector..

What fenderman and nayr said...

I am using a few older Costco Q-see cams in a Dahua NVR 5816-16P-4KS2 without any issues.

We use a Cyber Power UPS also.... good insurance...!

Thanks, You guys were right, after fiddling with a few settings and deleting my old Q-see NVR/ Cameras from the SmartPSS device manager, I was able to see the camera I plugged in. Works pretty good. Along with the NVR I purchased, I also ordered a UPS battery backup for the NVR.

Thanks again for the heads up on the Dahua NVR, if this one goes out like the last one, I'll purchase a Dahua without hesitation.
