Why not just run an HDMI from the computer to the LED monitor?

If the camera gui pulls up on the LED monitor via the ethernet port will depend on the monitor - is it a smart monitor with a web browser?

The PC is already connected to a monitor for work. I'd like a second monitor dedicated to live security view. Second monitor is not smart.

I don't think connecting the computer or camera to the ethernet port of the TV will work then.

Link is to a monitor.
Connect camera to Ethernet splitter. From splitter connect to PC and to Ethernet port on LED monitor.
No such thing as an Ethernet splitter and monitors don't have an Ethernet port.
Thoughts?
Won't work.

That will not work. The camera doesn't have HDMI to connect to the splitter. There is no way for the non-smart monitor to pull the video from the camera either.

The camera has to be connected to the PC or add an NVR. The camera has no way by itself to send a video to a monitor. It has to go thru a computer or NVR.

Does the computer have two HDMI ports?

If the computer doesn't have two HDMI ports then I don't think the HDMI splitter would work either as that would just mirror it to both screens.

You can't plug a ethernet cable into a computer monitor and expect to get a signal. Most obviously because the monitors won't even have a ethernet port on them, but that is because a network plug isn't for sending video signals. Sure, you can view video that was received through an ethernet connection, but that is after the device/computer processes the network data and creates the video output. A computer monitor is not going to have any of the "processing" capabilities built in to do that. In other words, the data carried on the ethernet cable is not specifically a video feed like a HDMI or VGA connection carries.

If you are talking about a Smart TV, then yes you should be able to plug an ethernet cable into the device and then use the built in browser to view the camera feed. That is because the smart TV/browser handles the "processing" needed to view the camera feed.

As already noted, there is no such thing as an ethernet splitter, you need to use a network switch to connect two or more devices to a single network cable.

Finally, most computers can support more than one monitor. It is very likely you can simply plug in a second computer monitor into the existing PC and use it to view the camera feed while still using the original monitor exactly how you are today. Even if the computer doesn't support two monitors "out of the box" it is likely there is a PCIe slot that you could add a cheap graphics card (like sub $50) to which would give you a second monitor output. However I would be very surprised if your existing computer didn't support two or more monitors already.

Thanks for the explanation. Here is an Ethernet splitter:
Good tip in the dual monitor.
Again.....there is no such thing as a FUNCTIONING Ethernet splitter, I don't care what they call it. Just read the note to the product you linked, it says "When one device is using the network, the other devices need to be powered off or disconnected."

I can send you a link to a picture of something called a "unicorn" but that doesn't mean there is such a thing in reality. Again, you would use instead a SWITCH.

FWIW, you were given most of this info in your first thread. .

Using this IP PoE PTZ camera powered by 12v adapter .
Connect camera to Ethernet splitter. From splitter connect to PC and to Ethernet port on LED monitor.

Will I be able to access the camera's gui to control PTZ from the PC?

Live viewing only, no need to record. No need for WIFI if it can work straight to the PC.

Thoughts?
hi klimshelf :

Monitor does not have an ethernet port .. so answer = 100% no

Note : Ethernet is not equal to typical coax connections where you can simply split the signal like that ..

Ethernet splitter .. if you want a "mirrored" / copy of the ethernet signal you want to look for a ethernet switch which has the ability to mirror ports .. again, ethernet / TCP/IP is more complex thus you can not just splitting wires to create a copy / mirror of the signals.

@klimshelf Amazon Prime day is coming up ..

you can look for a PoE switch that can provide both power and ethernet connectivity ..

or if you have a separate power to the camera(s) , then you can get a nice switch like :

note: Prime Big Deal Days is Amazon's deal event on October 10-11 exclusively for Prime members, featuring two days of epic deals ahead of the holiday season.

if you do not have prime, perhaps someone in your family does .. or you can do a prime trial period and then cancel ..

Good info. Thank you very much, especially for the specific examples. Having never done a setup like this, and with myriad choices, there is a bit of a learning curve. This forum helped a lot.
