Worlds First Review - Dahua DH-IPC-HFW5449T1-ASE+D2 - Dual Lens Full Color 2.0

Thanks... yeah I get sound with UI3 but no option to speak... I paid for the BI mobile app but have not been able to get it working with the STUNNEL setup...maybe when I have a day off I can try to tackle setting up VPN and see if it will work with that

Will the mic work from your home network and not using STUNNEL? That is the first troubleshooting to see if it is a STUNNEL issue or a camera setup in BI issue.

I’d sure like to buy one of these cameras as a compulsive. But I’m not sure if I should just stay with the 5442. In the area where I’m putting cameras I can add light. I do like the options of 2 way talk if need be. here’s what I‘v got going so far. As you can see I like to use light and can always add more. I just ordered 2 5442’s but still needing 3 more cam’s. Any suggestions?

The dual lens is a very new tech and working great
Here is the recommendation from @Wildcat_1 about the installation .
Remember that the 2 lenses have to converge so higher and further away leads to loss of detail due to the fringing of the spliced images. Therefore to retain quality of target details go in the middle (7 - 7.5ft high) and with distance to target around 6.5ft - 10ft from camera. Camera

I also have Dahua 4MP Dual Lens.
Dual Lens is a good idea.
But there are still some flaws.
I am sorry, My English is not that good.
Only use simple pictures to report to everyone.

This is Dahua's ideal Dual Lens.

This is Dahua Real Dual Lens.

Has the same OS04A10 + 3.6mm F1.0
The shooting range of IPC-HFW5442T-ASE-NI will be wider.
And HFW5449T1-ASE-D2 is to crop the non-overlapping area after image fusion.
So the shooting range of HFW5449T1-ASE-D2 will be relatively narrow.
And because the image is enlarged to 2688*1520
So visually it feels a bit unclear.

HFW5449T1-ASE-D2 The night color is definitely the best.
Finally, I hope Dahua can refuel to provide better products to you.

Does this look like a focus issue? Splicing issue? Something else? If focus, is there a way to manually focus this camera?

I also ordered Dual Lens twice before and after.
Unfortunately, it was very blurry when it arrived the second time, much more blurry than your picture.
This focusing method can only be disassembled.
First restore HFW5449T1 to factory settings.
First use a black cloth to block the big lens to make the screen appear black and white.
Reconfirm whether the focal length of the small lens is accurate.
Adjusting the big lens can only rely on feeling, not to block the small lens.

Need to prepare a heat gun set to 115 degrees Celsius.
Remove the glue originally fixed to the lens.
Also need to prepare purple light lamp and purple light curing glue.

This is has essentially deterred me from trying out the current models until things stabilize in the semiconductor industry and manufacturing sector. Out of focus problems appear to be quite prevalent in some of the newer models. Not a bad choice for one just beginning to deploy a new system, but definitely looking forward to something better and newer in the future :)

I'm holding off too at the moment and sticking with my 5442's for a bit and taking a wait and see approach.... although I was tempted this sale, I resisted :)

I didn’t plan to talk about Dual Lens in detail.
I'm afraid Andy will blame me.
But I want to explain why the clarity of the Dual Lens is slightly reduced.
I hope everybody still buy more from Andy.
There will be new technology when there is sales.

I've had mine up and running now for a few days. Flashing the new firmware improved the picture but I still have issues. Daytime is pretty clear.. night time even with good lighting I seem to get a lot of ghosting and blurriness still

No reason for him to blame you. Facts and details is what we are all here for.
I was wanting one of these too but made the decision to hold off after reading of other issues prior to your post.
Even though I may not be buying this cam from him at the present time, all of my other purchases are still through Andy!

If it is an honest review and substantiated with video, Andy very willingly accepts hearing that a camera has issues. He takes exception to folks that negative review him on Amazon and they didn't purchase a camera from him - but that is a reasonable exception. He figures if we are not happy with the camera model, the average consumer won't be either and he won't sell it. I am sure there are plenty of Dahua models that he will not sell because they don't fit the bill.

He also spends a lot of time working with the Dahua engineers to take our feedback and make the camera better.

Companies bring new models to the market all the time. Some are winners and some are a bust. Too early to tell yet what this camera will be.

Just reading these steps to fix the focus issue is giving me a headache. I'm not going to disassemble the camera and do all that just to fix a a NEW camera. No fault of Andy, but unless you are very skilled and professional with camera equipment and know how to take them apart and reassemble it. I think most people will rather wait for Dahua to mature the Dual Lens product before buying it.

This camera comes with a very new tech, so we bring them to sell, and will have more guys to use this series, so we will have more good idea to share about this model. Currently too close watching the Splicing will not work very well, this is hardware limit. I will report to dahua to check if we can do something to make better working for this cam.
Always welcome to discuss the product, good or bad !

this is from @Wildcat_1 talk with me months ago when he got the 1st sample.
The dual lens will really amaze people I think. Some will love it, others hate it.

If anyone needs assistance with the Dual Lens and dialing in for the best it can be for now then just DM me (@dok0619 or others). As I mentioned and showed in my review, with this tech, current FW, Dahua's approach and splicing algorithm there is a knack to dialing these in to get the best out of them as they stand right now while we await further updates. As Andy mentioned when I spoke to him a few months ago on this one, some people will love what the dual lens offers (and can in the future) and others not so much. It is a unique concept for sure BUT has a TON of promise and as I showed in my video's, really does allow for target capture fuzing the needs of color (for identification) and B&W (for detail in dark/shadow) not possible by single lens, non fuzed cams. With these cams, lens convergence and close focal distance do have to be taken into account for sure as well as choosing install location along with distance to target etc as a key to maximizing them today. My recommendations to Dahua on allowing manual splicing adjustment is still out there too and I continue to push them to consider this as it would allow a more progressive approach to aligning images from both lenses for ultimate parity in line with the lens configuration adjustments I've fed back. Along with this, my suggestion that the Dual Lens be able to be turned off or fusion disabled during day operation which would then allow for a sharper 4MP 'standard' image during the day (using standard lens) and kicking into image fuzing with the 2nd lens during night / darker environments. The new FW is certainly a lot better in improving the current experience as I mentioned above BUT still needs work. I'll continue to work with Dahua engineering and @EMPIRETECANDY on this with hopes that Dahua looks to address these ASAP.

HTH

The main question is if this is related to manual focus of one of the lenses or if its caused by software.

Its nice that you try to help, but if its a hardware issue they will only worse the image more by software correction.
First they should figure out what the problem is instead of playing around with firmware.

@kobebeef
do you have any pictures before the lens correction ? just to show if there was any improvement on daylight AND fusion mode

I did not keep pictures before the lens correction.
I just felt so vague at the time.
And immediately take a screenshot to the person who shipped it to me.
The screenshot at that time can only be found from the conversation log.

After the lens correction.

when zooming into picture from @nwiceman

then there are some similarities, but his picture looks not as bad as yours.

@kobebeef
do you see any improvement at night (bw) , or is this only visible for color day picture

Thanks for the reply. In a cam like this it’s important to address HW and SW (FW) due to the nature of its use case and its operation in providing the end result, in this case using SW based algorithms to fuse the image from 2 lenses and to setup the spliced calibration.

As I mentioned above, HW lens alignment I’ve also raised with them. This is something that needs to be quality checked for sure on each cam on the manufacturing line (regardless of cam we are talking about) and is part of the list of items I’ve fed back to have them work on for this particular cam as it’s even more critical when you are fuzing images between 2 lenses. This however is one part and seemingly isolated because not all units have a manual focus or HW alignment issue, far from it in units I’ve seen so far, therefore appears (at least at this time) to be a sporadic quality control issue affecting a few units.

With that said, a number of the issues I’ve seen are in SW based alignment (how it handles the fuzing process) and relating to FW calibration of the splicing algorithm used when attempting to adjust for lens convergence and the alignment of this convergent point at critical close focus distance (6.5 ft) hence that is why I continue to push on that aspect as well.

HTH clarify. Either way, will continue to push and report back on what I hear as next steps. Again, this cam has a lot to offer so am hopeful that Dahua will be open to working on what’s needed here.

I just got the turret version of this camera as an early Christmas gift :)

I will set it up and compare it next to the 4K/X and will share a side-by-side between the two.

Someone earlier also said they couldn't get the two-way to work with this cam in Blue Iris, so I will see if I can figure that out as well.
