What SW/HW solution can compete with AXIS Loitering Guard (having smaller pricetag)?

Hi,

Can anybody recommend software of hardware solution that is similar to AXIS' Loitering Guard? It can be simple, but still having reasonable false-alarm amount, unlike, probably, Hikvision's intrusion detection. And it will be great if it can work with cameras less expensive than AXIS - Hikvision's pricetag is OK.


Background:
I'm trying to figure our what can be a solution for my 2 camera environment.
One of those is supposed to monitor 2 doors that are located nearby - private apartment's entrance door and storage room located nearby.
I would like to receive alerts only in case somebody is loitering around.
Unfortunately basic solution I thought of (Hikvision's loitering detection) has limited configuration, so any object that stays in the view for more than max 10s should trigger alert.
In reality pretty often it takes more than 10s to come to the door, find key, open door, enter apt, close the door. Thus I expect that Hikvision will trigger a lot of false alarms from my family members coming home.

As high-end alternative I've found AXIS' Loitering Guard that from first glance looks like really robust solution with all it's settings.
Downside is expensive cameras plus small extra for this plugin.
Unfortunately for me they're very expensive. And I can't find used ones in my area.

Pls, advise.

I responded to your thread in the Milestone section, but missed the bit about budget. There are huge software patents on all this stuff and it's hard to do right, so I doubt you'll find a cheap solution that is "good enough". Some of the better cameras have fairly impressive analytics and some of the best VMS have good server based analytics. Those are upwards of $1000/channel for the analytic licenses.

Hit up a couple of vendors and borrow some cameras for a week to evaluate and test, test, test.

For vaguely workable (not that good but an order of magnitude better than the built-ins in any Chinese camera) grab a 30 day trial of Aimetis Symphony and have a play with its server based analytics. I'm not endorsing the product (I don't like it at all) but I know they do have a 30 day trial and I've tested the analytics enough to point them out as a starting point.

I've got some old Bosch 495 cameras here with IVA enabled that would do the job. They are 7 years old now so you might be able to find one second hand. You'd have to look to find one with IVA enabled though, it was not a cheap option at the time.

@iScape If your budget is limited, you might try to setup blue iris as a poor mans loitering solution...there is a feature in the alert tab that allows the alert to only trigger if the motion settings are triggered X times within Y seconds. Now this wont work if the subject stands still....

What about hacking the camera? Can you telnet into the camera, identify and change the line of code from the command line to give you more than 10s?

I have not played with it at all but the keep time on dahua's loitering detection goes up to 5mins, alot better than 10s

Do you by chance know if that's available on all Dahua cams (except very basic ones) or is it "super-smart" feature available only on tops?

its not on all of em, 2 of my 3 dahua's w/IVS support include it but one does not.. check spec sheets or confirm w/vendors.

Does anybody have experience with Axxon Next from analytics perspective?

Though I prefer HW-based solutions over SW from reliability prospective, I would give Axxon a try as so far HW-based pricetag (Avigilon, Bosch, Axxis) seems unreasonable for my small setup as I simply can't find required used cams in my region.
