the mount it comes with is perfectly suitable for vertical install, or horizontal, or just about anything inbetween.

its got 3-axis positioning and the camera is independent from the mount..

So, dumb question maybe but how do I do the math when given a focal range to determine the zoom x factor?
So, like this camera is 2.7mm ~12mm....What X zoom is that? How do I do the calc to find out what x zoom that is considered for this or any focal range?

X Zoom means nothing at all.. its a multiplier.. this is a 4.4x Zoom.. but a 5mm-50mm is a 10x the same way that a 2mm-20mm is or a 10mm-100mm is.. all those are 10x but the actual maximum "zoom" of each is vastly different.

optical zoom = maximum focal length / minimum focal length

update: ive been running this camera indoors for a few days and I am still very impressed; Ive got onboard IR disabled entirely and it sees great off my ambient night lighting.. and in low light conditions like when I dim the lights to watch a movie, etc.. its able to remain in color with a very sharp image.

The currently camera all are the version 2, so called S2, in order not to make you guys misunderstanding, i just use the IPC-HDW5231R-Z. This one now dahua is bit slow for the production, still need some days. I booked many and i think can meet all friends on this ipcamtalk who are interested.

Ugh. I did all this research 4 months ago to be ready to pull the trigger now on a Hikvision NVR system with 2332 turrets. Checked back and now this is king of the block.

As a IP cam newb, I'm only looking for 4-5 POE cameras to be mounted at the corners of my house hooked up to an NVR that I can set it and forget about it. I'd read that Dahuas take a bit more expertise to set up, but I'm willing to spend the extra time for a clearly better picture. Is the NVR I'm looking for the DH-NVR4208-8P? And is it much harder to set up than a Hikvision system?

dahua takes no more expertise and knowledge than the hikvision - not sure why anyone would tell you that...go with this dahua turret..

how is this camera during the daylight? i have a hikvision dome camera and during the morning to around noon time, the picture looks white/washed out because of the bright sunlight (camera is under a balcony).. and parts of the picture at time (where the are shadow under the balcony) is pretty dark..

i tried using a dahua camera too (the picture still looks white/washed out)..picture is improved in the dark areas though.. but the dahua colors are not accurate/looks dull compared to the hikvision..

@nayr what NVR software or hardware are you using with that camera? I'm testing Sighthound with a different Dahua camera but it'll only connect to the sub stream not the main stream.

Sorry I realize this is somewhat off topic. But I want to make sure this will work before investing in multiple cameras.

Any mainstream vms software will work with this camera...dahua is a popular brand and supports onvif
