After reading and digesting info from here for the past several weeks, I''m going to get my feet wet with my first IP cam.

From a recommendation based from @nayr I've placed an order for this cam: Aliexpress.com : Buy SD59225U HNI 2MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ Network Camera SD59225U HNI ,free DHL shipping from Reliable network camera suppliers on Empire Technology Co., Ltd

We will set this up as a critter cam in our backyard. We also have a view of a lake.
Will post pics and vids when it arrives.

You guys are costing me MONEY! ha!

That's what I would consider "diving right in" - Good Luck and look forward to the review and examples.

Remember to also get a proper powering source since this is POE+

My first would have been the IPC-HDW5231R-Z, but it's a tad hard to obtain at the moment. It's next on the agenda.
Copy that on the Poe+. Shopping for a switch now. Anyone has a favorite I'm all ears.

Ubiquiti is my new favorite on networking gear.

And I've got access to Juniper and HP at insanely cheap prices through a huge client of ours (giant company that buys in huge volume). They offered to barter some stuff with us because they are happy with the work we've done.

Ubiquti takes the cake on being enterprise-level reliable, but also easy to use.

The cam has shipped today. It appears that Visa took their time clearing the payment is part of the delay.
Stay tuned.

Looking forward to your experience with this. Andy just put this item in my ear and has me curious if it will work for my back yard. I ordered these ZyXEL’s new PoE switch cuts network complexity for small offices | ZyXEL . Still waiting on cameras to determine how the poe portion works.

Looks like you want a 4.5" OD if possible, however it appears a 4" may work. See the data sheet here:

Doh! Thanks zero and Andy, I had seen that spec sheet but it didn't register with me that those were the pipe dimensions. Thank you.

I finally had time to set it up last night on a test basis. Granted this is indoors as the weather outside is frightful. :)
After some struggles getting the IE plugin to produce a picture...WOW. This sucker rocks.

How do I get the manually recorded files to play back in the IE web app?
The files are in the folder but the playback tab doesn't find them, it only shows the SD card as the data source, which I don't have as yet.
They don't show up on the calendar either. This on a Win 7 machine.
