Hi All,

I am looking at improving my lighting on one camera which currently looks down the side of the house. Since it is mounted with a PFB203W (wall mount) and without trying to encroach on the neighbours is parallel with the brick work causing the IRs to blast the bricks more than the passage causing a dark image.

I tried using the camera in corridor mode by rotating the camera sideways and moving it slightly away from the brick which helped but not as much as I wanted.

Understanding that all this can probably be solved by using an external IR illuminator the next question is, what one?

@nayr suggested in his IR Cannon w/Adjustable Focus thread to purchase the following, except it seems they are no longer available.

CCTV 5 90 Adjustable Focus 4500mW Surveillance IR Illuminator LED Array 850nm 10 100M-in CCTV Accessories from Security & Protection on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

I did find this, which looks identical from a different retailer but it doesn't have focus adjustment.

Aliexpress.com : Buy LED Array IR Surveillance 850nm 4500mW 15 Visible Light 100M CCTV Camera Illuminator from Reliable array led ir suppliers on Eprid Surveillance Security Cameras Store

Alternatively I found RayTec and GJD make both white and IR illuminators but I think price may be the biggest turnoff with them, thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Crpytelli.

Maybe if you have a crap camera, you can take it apart and use the IR, lol.

I do have my old analogue cameras... Silly question, why would I take them apart and not just run them as they, cannot record anything if it isn't hooked to a DVR.

You can, I guess I was just thinking you might want to put the guts into something smaller or something, I dunno, yeah just run them as is lol

Good point, that would be the only reason for disassembling them. I have some other crazy idea where I might be able to use the low resolution of the old cameras, so not looking at hacking them apart yet.

cryptelli,

Your challenge seems based on mounting
without trying to encroach on the neighbours
If your camera has the "Overlay" feature, you can mask off you neighbors yard. You define what part of the image is blacked out, and not recorded.

Correct, and that is what I have ended up doing but because the camera is rotated out the IRs are no longer shooting straight up the passage.

@nayr would you have any other suggestions or feedback on the two companies from my opening post or have you found yours performs well for the price and haven't needed to look elsewhere?

Fair enough. I just realised the adjustable focus you recommended (which is no longer available) is from the same vendor as my listed alternative, would prefer the extra power even if it requires another run as it is going to be aimed down a passage which is pitch dark at night.

I make some phone calls and was quoted upwards of $400AUD for GJD. I also found a USA company NuOptic which make varifocal IR illuminators. Hopefully should have an idea on price soon. I think finding something similar to these adjustable focus units for the price is going to be hard to beat.

Most units seem to require you to know the beam angle you require, which is why I love the varifocial cameras you aren't fixed if you change your mind later.

UPDATE: I contacted the seller from Eprid Surveillance and apparently they are currently unavailable due to a lack of component supply. Should be available again on the 16th of March.

Alternatively I found RayTec
An Australian retailer quoted me $300 delivered for the Raytec Vario2 i2 PoE illuminator. This model has 10*10 degrees, 35*10 degrees and 60*25 degrees replacable lenses. 850nm.
It is the strongest IR illuminator they make for the .af PoE standard.
