Hello, Hopefully i posted this in the correct Forum here. I've been looking for an IP security system for a couple weeks. I wanted to know if someone can recommend a reputable vendor on Alibaba. I was doing some due diligence and came across ipcamtalk.com. I found it very informative and saw some older posts of a vendor on the Forum called Milkidbad that members were saying good things about but I searched for him to PM him for some pricing and I wasn't able to locate him so I went on Alibaba looking for a Dahua vendor. I got several quotes. The one I was considering was from a company called Shenzhen KingCCTV Technology Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen China The quote was in-line with what I was getting quoted but before I send money I wanted to check for other vendor recommendations or if anyone has done business with KingCCTV and could please give me some feedback on their experience. I would pay with Paypal so I thing I would have some protection if the transaction doesn't go well but they have been very responsive to my questions. The one thing that I'm a bit unsure of is I specifically said I wanted a branded Dahua and some companies stated that they don't have the Dahua name on them but this KingCCTV stated theirs does so that makes me wonder if that's true or not. 2 China vendors from Ebay stated they too had branded Dahua cameras and NVR's. This is my first security system for my house and I've never bought from Alibaba or at least not $1100 worth of products.

I'm looking for:

7 Dahua Dome cameras HDBW4431E-AS
1 Dahua NVR4208-8P with 2 TB HDD
6 PFA Junction boxes

Thank you,
Rod

Andy is definatly the best seller on AE with a presence on this forum, but I also had very good experience with the following seller, which did include shipping a faulty camera back at their expense.

China Security Wholesale

*** Sorry was blind ***
But if you're after Dahua cameras Andy will be the one to goto to.

I can't say enough good thinks about the forum member @EMPIRETECANDY (Andy) and his store on AliExpress:
Empire Technology Co., Ltd - Small Orders Online Store, Hot Selling and more on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

He's been very active on this forum for awhile, both helping folks understand/order the products, as well as working directly with Dahua regarding the occasional issue the forum finds that look like actual firmware bugs. Andy appears to be able to work directly with the engineers.

I think Andy can get Dahua branded products. I'd guess than 99% of the folks here order the unbranded products through him though, as they're less expensive. You lose the ability to contact Dahua directly for support, but from what I've seen, the members on the forum here usually give better support (and more quickly) than Dahua usually does.

He can usually bill through PayPal if you'd prefer not to use his Ali store. You can email him at kingsecurity2014@163.com or Skype him at andy.tenvis. Remember that his time zone is quite a bit ahead of most of the US, so there may be some delay due to that.

Hey Rod,

Why not use IPC-HDBW4231E-AS? This is very nice cam too, starlight one.No worry at all for the safe or not, paypal is a great tool, so no need to worry. Brand or no brand not a key problem, the key is they can help you for all warranty issues when you use months.

I looked at the 4231E that EMPIRETECANDY suggested but it's 2MP and I want 4MP. I've been try to google the difference between
a IPC-HDBW4431R-AS and IPC-HDBW4431E-AS? Is the one ending in E, English firmware and the one ending in R, International? or does it have something to do with whether it's format is NTSC or PAL?

Thank you,

That 2MP Starlight camera provides exceptional detail. Don't expect better detail with higher megapixels. Typically what you get is more noise and less detail. Attached below is a current view of my driveway from a IPC-HDW4231EM-AS turret.

I agree that's pretty sharp but I don't think I'll save that much money going to 2MP. I think I'll go to a local CCTV retailer and see how much different the 4MP looks vs the 2MP. If there isn't a noticeable difference then I will go with 2MP cameras.

you are completely missing the point...the 2mp he referenced is actually MORE expensive...it has a starlight sensor that is exceptional in low light...there difference is night and day...there are plenty of videos and images in the starlight threads that show this..

I did miss that point and after hours of research I guess I have a lot more research to do. Thank you for pointing that out

Here's a dusk photo taken just minutes ago of the same driveway, albeit with the addition of the Beetle. Note the exceptional detail from this 2MP Starlight camera.

If you have some more time, check out the review/owners thread (in the Dahua sub-forum) for the Starlight 5231 Varifocal Turret.

I think that was most folks here first experience with a camera that had the newer, bigger Sony image sensor in it. Going through the first few pages of the thread, you should be able to see a lot of talk about how the hell a 2MP camera could have a better all-around image than a 3MP/4MP camera.

If you’re in the US, I’m not sure if any local CCTV shops have the Dahua Starlights in shop to demo yet. But there should be a thread on here with all sorts of pictures from the most popular Starlight models.

Hi Hotrod,

1) Definitely skip the dome camera for outdoors if possible. The older domes I have seen exposed to UV have really taken a beating and have to be replaced sooner than the other types of cameras.

That said I did pick up a mini-dome camera for my front door due to size and placed it as best as I could to avoid direct UV.

IPC-HDBW4231F-AS
IPC-HDBW4231F-AS | Dahua Technology - Dahua Technology

It looks very good with the cover painted to match the color of the building by the door.

2) 2MP Dahua Starlights - IF you need a low light camera - these models are the ones to get. No question.
Here is an example image of what you can expect from the Starlight Varifocal Turret
Great example of Dahua Starlight 2MP Verifocal Performance in low light

3) I would also confirm working with Andy, he did a great job with my order and would happily recommend him. ( @EMPIRETECANDY )

4) Consider junction boxes / Public Fittings and order them at the same time as the cameras. I really like working with these as they allow for the connections to be in the box.

Have fun
