New setup

Hi,

I've being a lot of research on a new camera setup for standard house security. My conclusion is the following, the Arlo Pro 2 is the best for easier wireless setup (with extra IR extender for bad night vision). However, a part of me still prefers a wired setup and is possible for my property. The Hikvision cameras look good, but I've heard reports to avoid them due to privacy concerns. This leads to me to my main questions, what would people advise to use instead? where to buy from? Would people recommend a separate network, or is that overkill?
 
I would not use wireless Arlo cams. I have a relative that just bought three of them and installed them on his house. The wireless signal is poor and can be interfered with by normal conditions. If you are going to put up cameras for security purposes, do it right by hard wiring the cameras. This way you know that they are always recording and always doing their job. I have been in this business long enough to see many situations where some shit went down, right in front of a camera, and nothing was captured because either the camera sucked, batteries were dead, wifi was in and out, or the camera was covered with spider webs.

All cameras that you look at will perform well during the day. Unfortunately, things go down at night. What you want is the best night camera. Dahua Starlights are proving to be a great camera at night for the right price. I prefer a stand alone NVR, but most of the other guys on here prefer a PC running Blue Iris to record and manage your cameras.

which seems good. I would prefer to order from a company which I can easily return to if needed, rather than someone random online (no disrespect). In terms of Dahua cameras, which would be recommended? I'm looking at this one currently ..

Also I would prefer not to have a dedicated PC setup for Blue Iris, so are there any recommended NVRs?

All this is quite complicated to put together, personally I would prefer the Arlo but I accept the reasons why its not really suitable.. but love the ease of it.
 
Those cameras are HDCVI, not IP cameras... HDCVI is a different type of system. They can work just as well as IP cameras in many cases but they have differences. Read up and make sure you understand the difference

Those are not ip cameras so an NVR wont work. You would need a compatible cvi DVR from dahua.
you should prefer a blue iris pc, its much better than any dvr/nvr.
That company wont sell to you direct as you are not an installer. That is why you need to create an account. They wont take your returns either.
 
Yes sorry, the dome cameras have issues. I have read much of the wiki and the forum, but if anything its left me more confused which camera and way to go. Basically my best chance to purchase is from this site, I'm trying my best to avoid Nest, Arlo etc, but need help which camera from what is available would be most suitable? :)

see the recommended turrets 5231 starlights. These are discussed hundreds of times.
 
Exactly which makes it very confusing. The link I mentioned whilst says Dome has turret cameras on there, but the specs and models and so hard to differentiate between. I want a great system, but to be honest close to giving up.

That site has EXACTLY the same camera. So give up and buy a garbage arlo. When you miss the footage you need and have learned your lesson, come back. This site is not for the lazy. Do some legwork.
 
I appreciate the help, I really do but you don’t have to be so direct and blunt. I’m trying to understand, I have read and done the leg work believe me but when it’s not your field it can be even more confusing. I’m on here asking for help because people like you do understand and wanting to avoid Arlo, Nest. When you come across a site that says order from this random guy , which maybe great, but I and many new comers have no idea. Give people a chance.

With that said, are you able to recommend an NVR to go with, or can you store directly to a NAS?

I do have to be blunt. You dont have to be passive aggressive telling us you are ready to give up. Go hire an installer to help you.
I dont use NVR's. I use blue iris. I would not recommend a standalone NVR to my worst enemy.
Andy is not a random guy. He has been selling on this forum for two years. Set that aside you wanted to buy from a specific website and pay more. Fine, great, yet you cannot seem to pick out a model number from that site despite the fact that he is selling the EXACT SAME CAMERA. Something is very wrong here. You want someone to browse the site for you and provide links? if you cant do that on your own, how do you expect to installed these cameras?
I suggest you go hire a local installer who will likely want to use his product at a markup.
 
Sorry for actually trying and making and effort, maybe you think I’m lazy but far from it, the installation will be the easy bit. It’s clear people here are very clever in this field and a great site for information, hence why I ended up and found much great advice. Maybe I could have been clearer in my links, granted. I think I was overwhelmed with info and what I thought i wrote was different to what I actually wrote, and for that I apologise.

Andy maybe a great guy, I said no disrespect, but to person coming here for the first time he is just another guy. Where he gets his stuff from I have no idea, again sorry for being cautious where I’m buying my goods from but some people are happy to pay more to know where something is coming from.

I don’t want to keep going back and forth on a mute point. We’ll agree to disagree.
