Geofencing on Android not reliable unless opening the App

Is the geofencing working well for anyone that keeps the app in the background 99% of the time?

I've setup geofencing, but it seems the app does not report location unless I open it up. Does the BI app not run properly in the background? Or is it required to open it every now and then?

I'm currently having this same issue. When I figure this out Ill post here for you. Ill watch this tread. I think it has to be a setting on the phone. Im using android Galaxy 8+ myself. I'm not seeing any settings to keep BI running in the background or as a service. I thought also It might have to do with gps location settings or something but I'm not finding anything. Hopefully the all knowing Fenderman will see this and solve it. I'm going to spend some more time on it tonight.

I don't use geofence, but likely some power save function on your phone.

My experience with geofencing is mostly with Smartthings. It was reliable when I first started using it, then there was a phone update for my Note 8 and it stopped working reliably, it seemed delayed. I did some searches and found some settings for the applications. One of the system apps I think it was Fused Location can be adjusted to help. But for Smartthings it doesn't seem to help and it's not reliable still so others have come up with workarounds with Sharptools and Autolocation. In the end I just gave up.

At least you guys have an option, for some reason I don't have geofence as an option in the Android app using a Pixel 3. I think I am going to take the advice I read elsewhere and write a script to test for wifi connectivity, if either phone responds to pings leave indoor cameras off, if neither do turn cameras on. I am not fussed with the external recording while home so something simple like this will probably suit me fine.

the user for the android app needs to have admin rights in BI. otherwise you cannot set geofence.

I have had no luck with my LG g3 andriod getting geofenceing to be reliable. I've messed with it several times over the past year.

I have experimented off and on with geofencing on my android phones now for 3 year. I have this exact problem.

iOS devices seem to work fine and update the location when needed.

Definitely have it as an admin account, even created another one to test it and then even tried with the main admin account, the option just refuses to appear. At this stage and hearing how it seems to be pretty unreliable scripting something myself seems like it will be the best way forward.

Unfortunately I have Ver 2.0.63. Darn Mr Looney2ns I thought you may have had it there. Back to the drawing board for me. It making me think harder about profiles and schedules so maybe Ill start playing around with these. I'd still like to get the Gefence figured out though as I think its a great feature that I can easily sell to my clients as part of the service. And Ill add that I really like the design of it. And its just a really cool idea.

The latest Android app release say's that Geofencing fixes were made.
Ver 2.0.63
11/29/18
I have this version and geofencing still doesn't work in the background, you need to re-open the app.
I have excluded the Blue Iris app from any power-saving control in the Samsung settings (Galaxy Note5) and tried it with no power saving at all on the phone, same result.
I understand it works on iOS according to a video tutorial on YouTube, where the author does say it's unreliable on Android.
I emailed Bue Iris support (Ken) about it and he acknowledged there are a lot of complaints about it, and he's asking the Android developer to look into it further, but no specifics.
