If you want any chance at ID'ing someone walking around any vehicles parked in the drive, you need a cam on each side of the door as shown in picture. You can always pant the cams and bracket to match the brick.

On the porch, that appears to be stucco on the right side of the door by the door bell.
Use some Panduit conduit to lower the cam down to at least 8ft, preferably 7ft.

Thank you all for your feedback. I will have to sit with my wife and convince her for the new locations.

I really don’t see it hard to put them lower in the garage. I can run the wires through the wall from inside of the garage.

Regarding the entrance I can try pulling the cable down. The doorbell has a Cat5e maybe I can use it to pull e longer cable and with a PoE extender use it for camera and doorbell.

Do the test before consulting with your wife - she, as well as many others really can not envision what the camera actually can see until they see an example. Seriously, do NOT consult and make a decision before doing the test.

Setup the test positions - one high on the soffits, one lower on the wall - you'd need 2 cameras for the test - and have a friend wear a hoodie and baseball cap and play the part of a prowler.

Ask your wife to review the video from the high mounted camera - and ask her to ID the suspect.

Then show her the lower mounted position, and ask her to ID the suspect.

Then ask her to pick which view is more important for her to see.

Hi Luis,

Normally doorbell buttons are mounted low, thus often a video doorbell is not mounted at the correct height for most visitors.

Thus, depending on what your setup is, and what products you are getting - I like to plan for 2 separate cat5e/6 lines as that gives me more flexibility, and I really want a camera at face level for those visiting. This is in effect replacing your traditional "peep hole".

Remember an intercom is a different requirement than a security camera - and while there is now some overlap - many products in this space still are not good enough imho to do both features well. So I plan to have separate products myself until I find one which does BOTH well.
