FYI B&H has this same system (at least looks like to me) for $150 on sale right now.

Saw this in Q/A on Amazon

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out.

At this time, Ring Alarm supports Z-Wave. Ring Alarm will support Zigbee at a later date.

Thanks,

I wondered how it will support it. I am hopeful it will allow me to buy zwave module and add strobe light to it etc.
doubtful.
Since the summer when these comments were posted, has anyone actually done any testing with other Z-Wave products to see if they work with the Ring Alarm System?

So I continue to look at this as a solution for a friend. I've been reviewing the comments from various sites and I happened upon the following that raised some interest and concern. Note that I am not trying to bash this product - far from it. I am greatly interested in it but I just don't know if these reports are indicative of systems like this in general, or more of a "not ready for prime time" for this particular system. I am particularly concerned with reports of the sensors going offline for unknown reasons. Hoping folks here can offer up thoughts...

Comment:
Ring's product is still missing a lot of features that I'm handicapped with: 1. It does not provide proactive app notifications when a contact sensor is tripped (as in, when a window is opened). Only if the system is in "Home" or Away" mode, the siren goes off, which is super loud! So, I really hope they provide the ability to push notifications on the app without triggering the siren.

2. The motion detector keeps picking up a *lot* of false alarms. I've contacted Ring support and they haven't found a solution for me. One of the key features this product lacks is the ability to configure "zones" or pixels where the motion detector should ignore movements (several products on the market allow for such configuration).

Comment:
Setup was easy, but it does take some time to setup and install the sensors. Understandably the amount of time needed is really unavoidable. All of the contact sensors included in the kit worked fine (but see later comments). The motion sensor worked for maybe 10 minutes as I moved it around testing for the best coverage. It now no longer works. Powers up, but won't connect. Tried Ring troubleshooting procedures including removal from the system, press 1 on keypad for 5-seconds, reset range extender, and on-board sensor reset. Still does not connect. Ordered this online, but going to local store to see if I can swap just the motion sensor. P.S. I ordered eight extra contact sensors (2 X 4-pack), and one of the contact sensors was DOA - no power, and it's not the battery. Ultimately I'm really disappointed that these two sensors have failed. And I'm supposed to feel secure when the system is protecting my home when two of fifteen sensors have already failed ... ?

Comment:
Hardware installation is easy and simple. The hardware seems to be in good quality. The problem is making the system connection to WiFi. It keep saying password is incorrect even I double checked it worked with other devices. Ring support are friendly but their suggestions is useless. Just about I gave up and return to Costco, the system worked. It worked for about 3 weeks. Then power outage and I have to reboot the router, now I cannot connect the base station online again. It keep saying 'on backup cellular data'. I have done all research for a solution but fail so far.

You need to take all amazon reviews with a grain of salt. Most are morons.
1. Why would you want a notification if your system is OFF? As far as the alarm going off immediately when the sensor is tripped. That is simply false. You can set a delay. The user in inept.
2. I have had this system installed and NEVER had a false trigger from the PIR. The use likely has a pet or foolishly placed the pir in direct sunlight.
There are 850+ reviews. 4.5 rating. IF you are looking for something with zero negative reviews, you will never buy a system.

No system is perfect, that's taken for granted. My concern was with the particular comments about disconnects and sensors dropping offline.

yes, 4 comments out of 886 reviews, 77 percent 5 star 13 percent 4 star...again if you would look at that number of reviews from ANY wireless system you would find the same.

Just read this thread. I'm getting one for our condo. They have a water sensor, which is key for me since we're not there full time . Thanks

Thanks fenderman. I didn't know if this was the exception, or more representative. I've been discussing the Honeywell 20P in a different thread. Tough choice. The Honeywell system allows me to use a broader range of sensors now, while the Ring is a much nicer "one box" solution - with a great monitoring price.

First off you’re putting to much faith in comments and ratings on web sites, which ring does have a great rating on the amazon.com, but they are also part of amazon now. I have had the ring alarm for 32 days now, when I first got the system I turned all the motion sensors on the highest sensitivity (just to see how sensitive they could be) my heating vent 3 feet away gave me a flase at 2 am , next day I turned all the motion sensors to normal (the middle setting ) and have had NO false alerts. I also have 4 first alert Smoke and co detectors connected to the system and being monitored, when I first set these up, I set off one of the detectors, the base station and keypads made a loud alarm, also rapid response the monitor company for ring called me immediately smoke and co alerts are different then a security sensor they don’t wait 30 seconds for you to turn the system off. I think the ring system is a great value for the money. 10 a month is a no brainer. I haven’t had any problems with the system and I have tested it over and over trying to make it fail. The way you set up your system is key no where to put motions sensors and how to set everything up.

Ring seems to have a pretty good price on a 14 piece kit (8 sensors, two keypads, 2 motion sensors). But my question is whether a second keypad really gets you anything. Or even a second motion detector. I could otherwise spend a bit less at Costco and get a kit with one keypad and one motion sensor, but 10 sensors.

Well depends on a lot of things on a Second keypad, If your house is a larger home you could put the Second keypad in a bedroom, where the base station may not be heard. The keypads have speaker on them which alert you of enter/exit delay, if you have that setup. In my situation I need 2 keypads one is by the garage door as you exit the home the other is in the bedroom hallway . At night when I set the alarm it’s put into home mode but it will also use the motion sensors in my living room, kitchen and basement and these sensors are setup for a no Delay ,so once triggered it immediately sounds the alarm, having the keypad in the bedroom hall prevents tripping the alarm. So it really depends on house size and how you wanna setup system I like to have my motion sensors on at night. so I need second keypad in the bed hall, also note the system will alert for 30 seconds if there is a security breach if the system is not dissed armed rapid response will call you after 30 seconds . However the signal is sent immediately .

the ring keypads are a mat white.. Costco keypads are like a glossy, white. So if you don’t like glossy white I wouldn’t go with costco

Good points for me to consider, Camit. OTOH with the Costco choice I could return it at (pretty much) any time in the future if for some reason I decide the Ring system is not to my liking.
