Thats good. By the way is there any tool, utility or hack we can copy files from SD card without removing it or going to GUI. Something like Windows Explorer etc

Just to add that Empire gives a discount for orders that do not come thru Amazon or Ali.

AND that on my last order (a few days ago) Andy (@EMPIRETECANDY) realized that I might have made a mistake in the brackets I was ordering and emailed me back with amazing details about the brackets and just "double checked" I had the right part numbers. HE was correct and saved me from getting brackets that would not have worked. That kind of customer service is why I will ONLY purchase things though him. (I've never received anything for free from him or any discount greater than what he offers everyone here...FWIW)

Which model is this? I assume some version of the 5231, but it seems to have slightly different specs than the one Andy's Ali store.
2MP IR Vari-focal HDCVI Eyeball – Dahua North America
Looks like this ... HAC-HDW2241T-Z-A
https://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/productDetail/22207

FWIW, this model is an HDVCI cam, not an IP cam.

Side note, holy hell with the HDVCI models... haven't looked at them in awhile. They have 4MP and 5MP Starlight models... man I hope that tech filters over to the IP models sooner than later!

Is there an easy way to tell if a Dahua camera is a "Starlight" model? Is there perhaps a digit in the part number or a list of all of them somewhere? Thanks.

Remember its a marketing term for good low light performance, not an industry standard. Many actually say Starlight in the model title, but as near as I can tell they rate anything with a Min illumination of .009/F2.0 or better as Starlight.

Example - The highly regarded 5231R-ZE
0.006Lux/F1.6( Color,1/3s,30IRE)

Whereas its 8MP bigger MP brother is not rated Starlight
0.05Lux/F1.8 (Color,1/3s,30IRE

Theoretically the best is their "Full Color" series
0.001Lux/F1.0 ( Color,1/3s,30IRE)

@davej, the Dahua US site stuck the Starlight tag on a few models awhile ago the most folks here would not have. I think that @bigredfish's suggestion to check the model's Min Illumination rating is a really good idea. You can also visit the Dahua International (choose the International one, not the US one) and lookup a model (or partial model) number and in the "boxes of features", it'll list if it's a Starlight. Their International site seems to be pretty good about not labeling models Starlights unless they're pretty good.

I wish they'd list the exact sensor used, but camera manufacturers are often reluctant to give out that information.
x2. A lot of the Starlight models used to specifically say they were Sony STARVIS sensors a year or two ago, ... now those models just say "progressive scan CMOS".

On the turret varifocals can you lock these down in place or can someone just move where the camera is pointed?

Yes. There’s a Torx set screw on the base (ring). Loosen it a bit when installing and you can change the aim. Tighten it up when you’re done and it’s very hard to reposition the camera. The camera comes with a Torx key you can use on the set screw.

I just got an HFW4239TP-ASE Starlight and I am trying to compare it to my HFW4433M-I2. How the heck do I set these two up so it is a fair comparison of night sensitivity? Thanks.

Set the exposure and shutter speeds the same in both cameras.
Since the HFW4433M-I2 appears to be a China Region hacked camera, the firmware in it may be buggy.

I am confused on the difference between "Starlight" and Starvis". In understand that Starlight is a term from Dahua for their low light product, but I though the truely great low light (night) color came from the Starvis sensor but some of the Starlight cameras state Starvis Sensor and some say CMOS with no mention of Starvis. I am looking for the low light (night) somewhat color 2 mp cameras so NOT sure which is more important Starvis, Starlight or models that state Starlight with Starvis sensor.

A lot of the models that used to mention STARVIS in the specs now say CMOS instead. Not sure why Dahua changed that.

There are different sized STARVIS sensors that can be paired with different lens (2MP, 6MP, 8MP). I’ve only seen the combination of the 1/2.8” (or 1/1.8”) sensor combined with a 2MP lens get the Starlight tag.

If you search the Dahua forum here for threads that have “Review” in the title, you should easily find a lot of info on the popular Starlight models.
