Holy moly. I have been alive for over 3 decades and never came across or heard of Coax-Seal until this forum. It took a massive rainstorm in CA recently to take down 2 of my cameras to realize I needed to use something to waterproof the RJ45 connectors. The first camera burned out and the 2nd camera was cutting in and out. The result was that the RJ45 connector housing was showing signs of a few pins been shorted.

Long story short, I ran new RJ45 cabling and crimped a new connector. This time I sealed the whole thing with Coax-Seal. Man is this stuff pretty easy to work with. I realized electrical tape is garbage. That stuff just comes apart after a few months.

I guess time will tell but I went ahead and ordered even more Coax-Seal to keep in my garage. This stuff ain't cheap.

Yeah I basically wrapped the coax seal around the entire body of that connector. Then I tucked it into the body of the camera mount. For my bullet cameras, I cannot do that, so that means I have to lease this connector and the coax-seal around it all exposed to the outdoor weather elements. That's how I had water intrusion. My only concern is that I have no experience with long-term use of coax-seal to hot california weather in direct sun. Or even severe cold vortexes once in a while. It doesn't seem like it will come undone but who knows.

jesus christ i noticed lorex is charging a TON of money for 8 pcs of those connectors. Highway robbery I tell ya. What are those like 75 cents in China each?

They are thieves. You dont need them at all. It is only in the last few years that cameras have been shipped with them.

So then what do you use in place of these connectors? The RJ45 would be exposed... unless you liberally wrap that in coax-seal :)

Yes, it is wrapped well and either put in the wall or in a junction box. Not one issue ever.

What about the DC plug on a Dahau? Should it be covered and waterproofed like the RG-45. Not using it but wonder if it has a voltage on it when using POE?
