Nothing super specific that I can articulate. I have other cameras that give me a 360 view of the property and would like to be able to target a location and zoom in with clarity I guess. It's more of a luxury than a real need. I've had several people park in front of my property on the weekends and when I'm not home I'd like to be able to keep a better eye on them I guess.

I wouldn't go lower than a 45x zoom in your location so the SD6CE245U-HNI you listed above would be a perfect base model.

Do the starlight PTZ get full power from the Poe+ or do they need supplemental power?
It's all from POE+ if you have that available and how I run both of mine from a Dell PowerConnect switch (although I have a Brocade here I'll be moving across to at some point).

My other reply was based on the pic you provided and what I would want to do with it after my experience with a 25x Hikvision PTZ.

The power requirement is 17w without IR and 25w with so a PoE+ 802.11at Switch or the included power adapter would be needed only.

Is there a faster way to get these cameras? I ordered an IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E from the Empiretech amazon store on April 28 and it shows it wont be delivered until May 17 to June 10th. Also Im now confused on model numbers and hoping I ordered the correct one that most recommend for the LPR camera. Do these cameras require some sort of mounting system that is not included? I want to mount it hanging down from under the eaves of my house.

Yes, a direct email to Andy Wang (kingsecurity2014@163.com) would get it to you usually in 5-6 days. I am fairly sure he ships out on Mondays, at least that is how it has gone for my several purchases from him.

Basically I have ordered on Friday or Saturday and he shipped on Monday. I received it on Friday.

So that camera could be mounted directly to your house, but the wiring would be exposed (see photo). There are three secure boxes that you could use.

One is the PFB203W which attaches to a wall. I have two but have not used them.

The second one is the PFA130-E. When you attach the camera to this box, the wiring connections are placed inside the waterproof box. Since it is circular, the camera mounts on the box plate and covers the screws. Very secure. I used this mount on the low cameras at my garage and the wiring goes into the house without being exposed.

The third one is the PFA122 which is square and the camera once mounted does not cover the box cover screws. I use this on some higher mounts where I had to run the wires along the surface. I drilled a hole and used a cable gland to run the Cat5e into the box. It is much easier to mount the camera while on a ladder than the PFA130-E, but is less secure if you are worried about camera theft.

Same price at BHphoto but with a U.S. warranty in a retail box. I got mine in two days.

BHphoto is often under appreciated. They are usually an authorized dealer on many brands so there is a U.S. warranty. For example, they are the only authorized Ubiquiti dealer in New York. Same price on ubiquiti gear as Amazon resellers, but ubiquiti will actually fix the bhphoto device if it breaks.

While bhphoto and empiretech don't carry all the same cameras the prices are often close. Andy is great, but I'm not getting a camera from China when I can get one at a good price from an authorized U.S. dealer.

I really like bhphoto.. I get all of my UniFi stuff from them.

Not their fault, but I don’t understand the rhyme/reason behind how Dahua North America chooses products to make available here (i.e. never carrying the ridiculously popular Starlight varifocal turrets), so I’ve got no problem giving @EMPIRETECANDY all of my business when it comes to my Dahua cameras.

I agree with a lot of your points but I only found 1 starlight dahau bullet camera and it was over 800.00. All the input I get on here is that the 2mp starlight cameras are the ones to get, even though Im still somewhat confused on that as I would think 2mp cameras would be kinda of outdated at this point and the 4 and 5 mp cameras would have better resolution, night vision etc. But it looks like I will have to order from China

Dahua Technology2MP Starlight Outdoor PTZ Network Mini Dome Camera with 2.7-11mm Lens

Not a bullet, but the price is goof for what it is.

I think it is unclear what sensors the 2mp Dahua USA cameras use at this point. It takes quite a bit of work to compare the bhphoto offering to international cameras.

That camera appears to be the US version of the SD22204UE-GN that Andy sells for $156. The BH prices is $358, more than double the price, plus you will pay tax and shipping.

The BH price I see is $249, plus comparing specs its an updated model. I'm logged into bhphoto. Perhaps the $358 is a Dahua USA MAP price. The prices shown on google shopping for Dahua at bhphoto are considerably higher than the actual store price.

You would think that more pixels is better, and it might be, depending on what you are trying to achieve from your cameras. But most of us are trying to balance recording a face at night to the point of being able to ID that person and the cost of the system. We are not trying to make professional quality video. If you think of us (collectively here at IP Cam Talk) as the prosumer market, price is important. Paying $100-$200 per camera is the sweet spot for most of us. In this price range, the CMOS (and lens) is what is controlling the image quality (and to a certain extent the software). With the software and lens being the same, jamming a heap of pixels onto a small sensor will kill your night image quality, all things being equal. If they would increase the sensor size as they increase the number of pixels, then the night quality would improve. But so will the camera cost.

If you are looking to get a daytime image that you can fill a 4K screen with, do not care about night image quality, and are willing to spend more than the $100-$200 range, then these higher pixel count cameras will work just fine. But they will suffer at night in low light. If you have enough light at night, then the higher pixel cameras could work just fine, but you should test one out first prior to buying a bunch.

I just clicked on the link you provided and that was the price shown. So what are the update specs? Are they significant?
