Sorry if this has been covered, I wasn't able to find anything regarding this before posting.

I'm planning to upgrade BI 4 license to 5 with the extended support option. I was wondering if anyone able to run BI 5 on Windows 2008 R2? I think the answer is no as it requires Windows 10, but figured I will doublecheck.

EDIT:
This configuration is working fine. Was able to upgrade it end of last year.

v5 will run on 7, it was initially not the case but he modified the release notes.

Maybe yes, provided the required roles/features and perhaps .net and c++ redistributable are added prior to installation. The challenge is identifying which of these BI requires.

Most of the "user" components which make Windows 10 Windows 10 are in server versions but not installed/enabled; servers are not designed to have users log onto them. I've used server versions of 2008 and 2012 as a home client (dont ask why) and for the most part Windows 10 apps can be successfully installed and function correctly.

It's now simpler (for me) to use Windows 10 Pro as it now has the parts of Windows Server that I want/need.

Thanks. I prefer to use Windows 10 as well, but when I looked a while back, vSphere 5.5 server doesn't work on it. If I can get both running in a VM that would be my ideal setup, but haven't had time to give it a try. I'll find some time in a couple of weeks to give it a shot.

If you’re feeling brave or bored download Process Monitor and watch what the install does to try and figure out what it thinks it needs or is missing.

I did this when I originally installed BI v4 where it needed the redist library files.
