I agree for $52 crazy good value. Also they BH had some cheapo 1.3mp ones for $20 also crazy deal for some not essential areas. But at 74 there are other choices that might be a better value (or not depending on use case), i still probably will get a few. But also looking at Hiks in same price range, they are 4mp but probably not as good in low light.

Hi dimammx

Comparing a camera with 4MP and a older 1/3" sensor vs a newer model with a better newer sensor. The 4MP cameras w/1/3" sensors imho should be a LOT cheaper.

Well i agree a lot cheaper is always better :) But for example i do have a place where i would like to have a higher resolution. This place got crazy lighting, someone went overboard and it is lighted better than a football field on the game day

I emailed B&H and asked why the price jumped up so much after they came back in stock. They never told me but gave me a 1 time promo code to bring the price back down to the original advertised price. I just placed my order for $52.50 free shipping, should be here in 2 days. I'm waiting on Andy to respond so I can purchase some cams from him also, he better hurry ;) This will be my first dahua cam.

Thanks. What lortya model you got? Trying to chose between Starlight+ full color or colorVu camera to try out.

What's your suggestions at around 75 from Dahua or Hikvision based on Andy or B&H pricing? It proba

I'm thinking of trying the colorvu Turret next without the spotlight on for a front door camera at night. I want to see color at night at least for certain areas.

I sent a email earlier today to see what they have to say. Maybe I'll get lucky like you did. What was the quantity limit? Also thinking of getting the 1.3mp just for the basement as I need coverage to see what's going on and it isn't risky. Just want to see if there's a sewage backup.

Was looking on Aliexpress in similar price point and found this that claims English firmware and can be upgraded. Might be dceent price to performance vs the 2mp I'm thinking? Also just as I was about to buy this B&H sent the code for 54 for the 2mp camera. They are catching on.

Hi @Safetyfirst

1) The Aliexpress ad on that I found resulted in:

Dahua IP camera IPC-HDW2431T-AS-S2 4MP WDR IR Eyeball Network Camera support POE Upgraded version of IPC-HDW1431S
US $58.29

IPC-HDW2431T-AS-S2
4MP WDR IR Eyeball Network Camera
> 4MP, 1/3” CMOS image sensor, low illuminance, high image definition
> Outputs 4MP (2560 × 1440)@25/30 fps, Max. supports 4MP (2688 × 1520) @ 20 fps
> H.265 coding, high compression ration, low bit rate
> Built-in IR LED, max IR distance: 30 m
> ROI, SMART H.264/H.265, flexible coding, applicable to various bandwidth and storage environments
> Rotation mode, WDR, 3D DNR, HLC, BLC, digital watermarking, applicable to various monitoring scenes
> Intelligent detection: Intrusion, tripwire
> Abnormality detection: Motion detection, video tempering,no SD card, SD card full, SD card error, network disconnected, IP conflict, illegal access, voltage detection
> Max. 256 GB SD card and built-in MIC
> 12V DC/POE power

2) I did not find any associated webpage from Dahua on it. Thus I would be very cautious. Typically this has me suspecting a Chinese market model.

3) Notice the "4MP, 1/3” CMOS image sensor, low illuminance, high image definition"
This leads me to be furthermore cautious on this model.. the 1/3" sensor 4MP cameras have not been well liked by members here and perform poorly in low light conditions.

I was looking and found sellers on ebay too. Probably safer to buy from eBay for 65 in case of fraud I would think. If the cameras only for daylight would the 4mp unknown Dahua camera be better in your opinion? I'm going to send a email to Dahua if I can find a contact page and ask them about this mystery model. Could someone be rebranding a existing camera falsely as Dahua?

HI @Safetyfirst

Recommend "cautious first". Serious questions about numerous Aliexpress and ebay sellers. I believe many of them are fraudulent in terms of selling products which are not as described.

With regards to the deal you've noticed - the ads I have looked at are clearly designed to pull the wool over your eyes and are full of "lies lies and lies" - or at least potentially as I have so far noticed one clear lie / deception imho.

THERE IS NO 4MP Dahua starlight with a 1/3" sensor.

clearly the have manipulated the image to claim there is as I can not find any proper Dahua page that shows this information.
( update: see Aristobrat's find below on the Dahua website for the "IPC-HDW2431TM-AS-S2" - where Dahua is stating it is a 4MP starlight with a 1/3" sensor.. which has me very curious and doubtful that a 1/3" sensor can be considered a starlight based on previous reviews on models by members here )

I am certain other aspects of the ad are lies also. ( such as the claim the camera is originally an "English" model.. )

If you are still so inclined, I would recommend you pick up one along with the B&H model listed in the thread and do a comparison and contrast review. Remember to attempt to update the firmware to a newer version. Also check that the IVS features actually work, along with doing a factory reset to see if the English firmware was factory installed and not a aftermarket hack.

Hey @mat200, I just noticed this on Dahua's website:

I don't know what the difference between the T version (AliExpress) vs TM version (Dahua) is, but on the Dahua website it looks like it is 4MP 1/3" and gets the Starlight badge. Interesting because the specs show it with a .008 Lux, which isn't as good as the 2MP Starlights.

Thanks. Specs don't seem half bad since they are confirmed. Still cautious if it's true English firmware from Aliexpress / eBay.

Agree with @mat200 , its barely a Starlight per Dahua's rating of anything .009 lux or better with an fstop of F1.9. or better

I've recently tested 1/3' 4MP cameras here and they dont compare with 2 and 4MP Starlights with 1/1.8' sensors and lux ratings of .002 @ F1.6
