Only problem is Andy the numbers arent likely right.

In the US we have something like 76 confirmed per Johns Hopkins this evening. The problem is a number of those were discovered quite late and between Washington State and the West coast, estimates are a couple of thousand already exposed. Its already in the wild and testing is behind, people "self=monitoring" etc. I suspect this week we'll see hot spots all over the US and many thousands exposed, with fewer "Confirmed" due to lack of testing.

Europe seems to be ramping up quickly.

I just don't believe the China numbers at all and suspect many in China don't either but are being told what to say. We get it. Frankly I understand the psychology behind the number reporting and we'll likely see similar "problems" here. At the top they have to be concerned about panic.

We may get lucky here in Floriduh, but I doubt it. Temps are to be 80-90F this week which may help. But the yoyo temps here have been 40-80F the last 4 weeks....

I've not in my lifetime seen as many Global Governments as freaked out about something period. Not wars or even the 2008 market crash here. I understand the sheeple panic and the MSM feeding the narrative, but really smart folks who run the show seem very worried. That gives me pause.

@bigredfish at least people will now see how important it is to be collaborative in the effort against a common threat; that is an emerging pandemic. I'm in the process of writing a Bioethics paper this term and thought I could write about COVID-19, but the topic is too new to be discussed in much detail but the 2002 SARS epidemic can be viewed as an example of humanistic effort. I've opted to discuss GMO's instead and something like bananas are experiencing infection via similar means.

The numbers are dynamic and you're right, its only a matter of time before there will be hot spots throughout the country because it is being taken far too lightly. There is way too much fanatic discussion through the media from blame to game. Otherwise travel restrictions and other security checkpoints would have already been more stringently imposed in the states.

DOW futures are only down 300
And someone just made a big bet, futures just spiked to +150 in a matter of minutes. Low volume and its very early so its probably going to yoyo all night. Fed may well announce helicopter money backing and a rate cut this week.
I'm sitting Monday out, But it is fascinating to watch how the "Casino" works in times like this.

Can only be cautiously optimistic at this time. I think things are going to come to a temporary crawl this week with greater precaution imposed by the US government. Its only way to contain and prevent further spread.

First case of Coronavirus confirmed in Manhattan. New York City about to be on lock down. Tri-state area is home to 25+ million people. The person is a female in her 30's and pregnant and recently traveled to Iran. Nobody knows how many people she came in contact with. Tri-state area is home to 23+ million people. This is going hit markets hard tomorrow. Never thought it would pan out so fast.

65 people are talking about this

Here's a kind request I'm sure everybody here will agree with me on this. If you're experiencing flu-like symptoms, PLEASE don't go to work, don't go to school, don't be in public places. Do yourself and others a favor. Thank you
Also for the uninfected (vast majority) --- wear an N95 mask, carry Lysol wipes and Hand Sanitizer, wash your hands, and don't touch your face. Stay hydrated and get plenty of sleep.

Came across a 9-year child coughing profusely the other day. She was laughing excessively and stating that she was sick. Her mother allowed her to go to school. Shame on such parents. Oh and here's the twist, her mother is a nurse!

Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure*:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

Call your healthcare professional if you develop symptoms, and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 or if you have recently traveled from an area with widespread or ongoing community spread of COVID-19.

Just watched the 10pm news and they only spent 2 minutes reporting first confirmed case in New York. Horrible news report. There should be 24/7 news coverage on this matter so that public will take precaution. Need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. People need to cooperate.
Headline should have stated, "Welcome to New York Coronavirus"

Why a run on bottled water? Are people afraid of tap water? Will they forego showers?

No need for bottled water yet, the water supply would not get compromised. This isn't a cholera epidemic. Main things to stock up on would be Lysol aerosol spray cans, Lysol wipes, Hand Sanitizer, Antibacterial soap, Masks, Napkins, a little of comedy, and the Titanic Official Soundtrack.

If people stop going to work out of fear, some of those people might be in charge of treating the public water supply, keeping the electricity on for pumps, etc. Not saying this is what is happening, but it's always a good idea to have some bottled water on hand. Many people might be realizing that now.

We pulled all our 401k out of the market a while go; we'll probably be going back in pretty soon. we're also closing on a new house in 3 to 5 weeks. Mortgage rates are falling...haven't locked in a rate yet. Provided Mrs. Q and I survive The ConJoboVirus this may shake out rather well.
