Hello! I have the infamous Lorex 6 camera kit from costco - one of the earlier versions

camera model: LNB8005
NVR model: LNR6100 / LNR6108 (would have to confirm which one)

My house has been under construction for a while so I had it set up as loosely just to keep an eye on things when nobody was living there. It has served me well, although the Lorex Cloud app completely sucks. Getting close to moving in, so am hoping to refine some of my camera placement and get advice on 2 cameras I can use to augment my kit.

I have junction boxes for mounting each camera, and aesthetics are important to me, just restuccoed the whole house so don't want to drill into it without really thinking it through. The front of my house doesn't have a lot going on so I'd rather not have junction boxes & cameras on the front of the house - would be an eyesore. I was hoping to mount one of the cams that come with the kit on the side of the house facing forward, but realizing that I can't achieve an acute angle, i.e. it can only point a straight 90 degree angle when attached to the junction box. So - my question is - are there other mounting arms and/or mounting options that I could use instead of a classic junction box that would allow me to achieve this angle from the side of my house facing the yard and the street given the stock cameras in the kit? Or, if that's not viable, is there a different camera I could add to my system that would allow a wider angle/POV? I'm obviously pretty new to this so looking for any advice/feedback I can get.

In general, I'd love to hear of any cameras people have added to their kits that have worked well for them or served a purpose they couldn't achieve with the stock cameras. Just exploring my options and this seems like the best (only?) place to get some good ideas! Thanks in advance!

Excellent, thanks for replying. I'll take a look at your thread now.

Is it fair to assume these would work on my current NVR or is there some way to test compatibility?
Hi @meggoev

Both are Dahua OEM - the NVR and Camera so should work well.

You may need to configure and sync IP, port, user / password, and substream info - search for the lorex threads for more info on what others have done to do this.

Once you do that, you should be good.

Great, I can handle that I think.

I'm checking out the camera @looney2ns posted above, looks pretty cool. Is there a more "entry level" version of that camera? Sorry - I'm still a newb and sorting through the specs and all of the acronyms has my head spinning!

Now I'm trying to sort out if I can mount it in the location I want to and get the angle I'm looking for without having to purchase a different kind of mount. I currently have standard junction boxes. One alternate option I was was looking at is this style PFB204W. Looks like there is no place for conduit to input into that one, though, and I'll be running conduit down from the soffit/attic, down the side of the house (1 story house). It seems like this camera can achieve a lot of different angles (as opposed to the bullets that come with my kit), so maybe the standard junction box would suffice after all..

What junction box do you currently have?

Was it a Dahua OEM / Lorex box. If so let us know the model - also feel free to share a closer picture of it.

This is a non-varifocal version, available in 2.8, 3.6 and 6mm lens.

I've been checking out the wiki - great info. Learning a lot. Thanks so much for your responses and guidance so far. As for the non-varifocal versions of the 5442 series - seems like for only $50 more varifocal might be the way to go.

Sorry to diverge from my own topic - but - Do most people here use Blue Iris? I'm still using the Lorex Cloud app and as I mentioned in my initial post - it's a really lame. Is there any alternative way to access my cameras easily from my phone without converting to a Blue Iris system? Not sure I'm on that level, yet, but would love a more user friendly app experience....

I added two PTZ, SD49225T-HN from Andy to my Lorex LNR608 which work fine. Almost like plug and play. I have some video's under camera captures which show the results.

I have the PFA121 box which work well for the cameras that came with the kit, haven't looked into if its compatible with the 5442 camera shared above.

Thanks for responding!
HI @meggoev

Excellent, PFA121 shares the base with the PFA122 - so if you need a different hole configuration all you need to do is swap the top of the box.

This is my preferred junction box atm for conduit as I can change out the tops.

PFA121 ( 4 holes )

PFA122 ( 3 holes )

Of course, if your camera uses the same pattern as your older one, better news! ( do remember to double check the camera's specs for the base.. )

I found various vendor carry these boxes ( inc Andy who often has junction boxes, just inquire ) - often with different model numbers. ( lorex example below )

Looney2ns Review-OEM 4mp AI Cam IPC-T5442TM-AS Starlight+ shows the IPC-T5442TM has a 4 hole base for mounting, it may fit your current junction box.
Check the specs..

Lorex btw also carries them - in White, Black, Grey - and often during BF-cyberweek deals has a 25% off and free shipping iirc

Your videos are amazing! I can't believe they are that sharp - and those bears?! Maybe I need to up my game and get a PTZ! I'd be lucky to catch a stray cat in my yard let alone any cool wildlife :D

@mat200 excellent! thanks for confirmation - I'm pleased to see that these junction boxes are fairly "standard" and that my cameras could be upgraded in the future pretty easily. Worst case, I need to switch out the top, not too bad!

I think I will just grab one of the cameras linked by @looney2ns , and once it is in hand I can bench test and play around with best location/mounting options. Really appreciate everyone's support on this!

and if anyone has any brilliant ways to avoid the Lorex Cloud app....I'm all ears!

@mat200 so it appears IPC-T5442T-ZE is not compatible with PFA122 ( 3 holes ) according to the specs. But my question is, if its compatible with PFA130-E (round junction box, 3 holes) why wouldn't the square one work?

That is correct @meggoev

the IPC-T5442T-ZE needs 4 holes - so the PFA121 may work.. ( I have not checked.. )

The camera includes a template, so you can check if it works...
