My requirements are pretty simple. I want to use HA to control the camera and take a picture once or maybe a couple times a day when the sun is at a specific angle. I'll likely add to BI just because. If it had Starlight and motion sense that would be fun to see if it is a racoon, opossum or skunk eating my garden. The little varmits are getting hungry now. Found a milk jug I used for fertilizer all chewed up and have video of the opossum hiding behind the grill when the skunk showed up!

I have wired cameras for wildlife captures. I find unless the small critters are very close to the camera, the motion detector doesn’t trigger. I process the video through an AI model so I don’t use the motion detection.

I know trail cams work for larger mammals but I don’t know if they will capture opossums.

I use a combination of IVS and BI motion detection - works for hedgehogs 5-6 meters away but sensitivity needs to be set high and there are often false alarms. Very fast moving animals are more a problem e.g. stone martens.
What AI do you use? MegaDetector look promising but needs a big GPU for fast processing of snapshots:

I’ve trained a model on Azure Custom Vision using snapshots from my own cams. I run it on a Jetson Nano. Seems it could be made into a BI plug-in or I could open a web service. Ultimately, I want the system to have active learning, so when you get an alert you mark if it was real or false and the model improves.
