A big warning to the people out there thinking of do something similar. I got to talk to a local officer. He suggested to bring up neighbors speeding directly to the neighbor and not waste his time. DO NOT DO THIS. ABSOLUTELY NOT. It never goes well.

We had a big increase in speeder percentage because scofflaws are scofflaws. He in the bible belt we have a right to spread disease. Our town didn't have enough protective masks and refused my donation. Our police and EMT's where left unprotected.
The governor spent 8 million on crappy cloth masks that end up having an irritant on them. Embarrassing to say the least. We have restaurants fully packed and no social distancing. No masks because that's "political"
Best yet NO Enforcement, NONE! The governor, the DA, and the health department, no one is responsible.
Whoever said "Boss Hog" Nailed it.

If you live in Algood we are donating YN95 to risk people!

Turned off the speed sign for 4 weeks, as predicted the speeding rose back to pre-sign levels.
Next tactic will be ads in our local paper.
Practically nobody reads "the paper" these days. Their circulation is drying up.

True but.....
They do in a small town. The web traffic to my site blew up at each article. To be honest it's word of mouth. Just calling the paper and asking about ads dropped the numbers. Each time I send details to the city hall as well but it wears off.
They locals use the web page and Facebook to bust ass. Gets nasty. I hate Facebook. and twitter.

Welcome old timer in my thread. I read a lot of your stuff. Thanks.

Algood City Hall Council Meeting

So I have been gathering data for more than 9 months. Time to go to city hall and speak my mind.
Boy I believe in God, and karma. A local drug store was broken into that very morning. Guess what? That was one of regulars 50 MPH plus.
Police wanted video after months of playing games. Replied "NO!"
Find out after meeting the expensive benz belonged to drugstore owner. He came to my house tried to jerk me around. Laid out my terms. He apologized.
Speeding rates will drop in half after it spreads in Sh*tBook. City council and spectators took it well. Waiting for retribution from police.
Fortunately made over 500k depending on day in stock market. We are going to get one of those city lawyers.
Officer B*, I know you read this :) I told you all I had many years working with the police union. You want references? (Brian Suchinski Bristol CT still love ya buddy)
Mess with the bull then get the horn.
The blue line is real. You are either jaded or beat down. No I don't want to be a play cop, or vigilante. Just slow the F* down. Besides I'd hire someone and pay them much more.
Don't pull the tiger by the tail. Bless your hearts!

The apologies are rolling in. Always accept a sincere apology you are getting what you wanted. No need to hold a grudge.
We will do a 4 week data collection but I think we hit a home run. I underestimated how many cared but felt powerless.

We found the Algood Dug Store robbers!!! I made some friends and we solved the crime!! The city cops didn't give two Sh*ts because it's an inside job.

Listen to my speech I told them we had a drug house and no one cared or ask me about it. WHY???????

100k of drugs is in that trailer

Hey @Laserray , any updates on this setup? I went to the website and it doesn't appear to be updating any more. Been a while since you blogged or posted here. You all good?
Life changes.....
We are good. We had a power failure which popped a fuse (I think).
Things were going well. It was time to change the setup. Started moving equipment around. Need to move some wires and bury others.
The was a social experiment as well as political statement. System has been down for about a month. Speeds are up right on cue.
Lesson learned you must do a change up every 3 months ore so. System will go back online after holidays. I will silently record the speed increases before then.
We have accidentally made some cool discoveries by listening to our Chief of Police. We know we don't agree by at least they are respectful at this point.
Town council meetings have been eye opening as well. Some neighbors have been very supportive and with the police help we all took care of the "mustang displays" made down our road.
Once I got over the initial resistance, and time past things went very well. A few suggestions have been very beneficial.

Now mind you COVID changed my focus and time I spend on this successful project. It wasn't the road system as it was going to the meetings and bitching in public that made the numbers lower.
Not a very democratic system but that's how it works. (one party)
Business, and the stock market are keeping my focus re-directed if you know what I mean.

The Chief had stated that people caught "the sign" displaying numbers while no one was on the road. This is quite normal as it's just a toy display I use and wasn't tied to the actual digital radar system. He got me to think so I added a control line to turn the sign off until old digital radar decided she saw a speeding valid car. Well the side effect is the sign does a bulb check light on all the segments "188" then their actual speed. Apparently as a local described it flashes them and causes them to back off. We also do a delayed red/blue fash for their rear mirrors. Neighbors say it's quite humorous.

Not a project I would recommend for the faint at heart. The final tally was speeding was down to about a 5% overall average with 10-15% peaks. Speeding will quickly now rises to 50% again within 2 months.

We are going to clean up somethings and start up again soon.

Cmon! Mate! That's just teasing us. We so need video of that.

One thing I noticed is you are getting vehicle type details from OpenALPR. I'm not sure if you have read @Gymratz thread on his OpenALPR export tool.

It's a great tool, but one of the things we don't get presently on the home plan is vehicle data, even though it is there in the local server

Wow, So all along Openalpr color of the vehicle was there seems like pretty interesting stuff :D

Whats more interesting is the make model seems to be there as well.

Given you already have code that extracts the information, any chance you could get your head together with @Gymratz on the next iteration of the tool so we can get vehicle data as well?

Sorry, I missed this post. I've been busy on other life issues.
We got the unit back up with a few nice changes. I put my original radar box with upgrades back on the road. The angle is better, and the horn rotated 90 degrees made a very nice radar range with no bounce effect the last unit had.
We are cleaning up the posts, and wires to make everything look nice. We changed out entire network over to Ubiquiti and I'm very impressed.
Going to change the flashing light setup hopefully I can get some videos of brake lights.

Did @Gymratz solve his problem? It was just parsing the jason file correctly.

The answer is I don't use the agent, or any of their database data. Each picture is sent to ALPR, and a nice JSON data is sent back with color, vehicle type, etc. I am pretty sure we approached the problem differently.
I wanted to limit how many requests I made back to there server.

Laserray, nice website! Got a good laugh when checking out Speeding ID’ed Repeats as it shows the HAGERTY sign repeatedly speeding :). I figure either the vehicle already went by or the wind is blowing the sign.

No that is a "feature" of the system. The ALPR doesn't know the difference between a plate and sign. We need to move the camera location or wait for political season to end. The LPR is in a fixed position. It's getting a video of a window of time. Certain speeds vs time are rejected.
Glad you enjoyed it ;)

Did you notice where Gymratz had found a JSON service which returns the VIN, make, model, year, etc. of a vehicle with only the plate and state? It returns maybe 90% of the queries. It will even point out if a vehicle had been flooded, in an accident, or had more than one owner. Works day or night, but doesn't return the color. Just substitute PLATE and STATE for the specifics:

https :/ /www . autocheck . com/consumer-api/meta/v1/summary/plate/PLATE/state/CA

Thanks!!!
Just what I needed more work. I'll look into deeper when I can.

Would be nice to use the API to validate the plate. Cool.....

It seems like you could really use a pair of ARH S1's to minimize your setup at this point. S1 portable speed camera with ANPR | Adaptive Recognition I bet you could do some cool stuff with this.
That is really cool. Needs to talk to a computer so you can stored data. Unless it does the too. Check on a Dahua unit last year it was over 10k and you need one for each direction. I may check on it just to amaze myself.

That is an easy JSON to decrypt. I may add it shortly if I get time.
