New to this site, been using IP cams for a while

Greetings,

I'm brand new to ipcamtalk, but have been messing around with video, ipcams and streaming for many years. I'm also not sure where on the site to start asking my questions.

I had an Axis PTZ dome camera on a radio tower, streaming live to youtube using the camestreamer app for over two years, without interruption. Well, a handful of power outages and whatnat. But the camera always came back online and reconnected to the same YT live video. I think this is thanks to the RTSP protocol it used.

Sadly, that camera died, and I replaced it with a hikvision DS-2DE4A425IW-DE. Unfortunately, my hikvision camera does not support RTSP, so I've had to switch to running OBS streaming software on an external computer. This software is kind of crap. When it loses the connection to YT it does reconnect, but creates a new live video.

I've heard that SOME hikvision cameras support RTSP internally, which might solve my issue. Or, I need to find a better solution than OBS.

Any suggestions?

I could be wrong but it's likely RTMP protocol you need from the cam, not RTSP (which it DOES provide according to specs).

Regarding issues with the "crap" (and free) OBS, I'm surprised based on its great reviews, widespread approval and use. Have you looked on the OBS forum to maybe address issues that you're having?

You're correct, RTMP is the protocol which Youtube wants. I mistyped the acronym.
I have spent some time on the OBS forum, but haven't narrowed down my issue(s). The software is certainly very feature-rich, but has not been consistent in how it operates.
I'll investigate more on that forum.
