Is there a "debug mode" in BI5 to determine what specifically caused a motion trigger?

Now I remember why I abandoned BI motion detect triggers a long time ago....I don't think I'll ever understand how they work, LOL!

Just for kicks I thought I'd try BI motion triggers again for a specific situation where I was trying to get a spotter cam to trigger just a bit sooner to allow the PTZ to swing around a little bit sooner. Clearly there is something I'm missing that I need to tweak a little bit more. See screenshots below on setting. The vehicle travels down the street without going from Zone B to Zone C, no headlights, no sudden light changes or shadowing. Is this some sort of contrast anomaly where BI thinks the street is part of the vehicle? 99.99% of the time these settings are working perfectly day and night with the exception of a few night bright headlight scenarios.

When playing back a clip, right click on the clip and select Testing/Tuning>Run through motion detector

+1^^.
The clip will paint the places it was triggered by.
If you still can't make what you have more reliable/accurate, consider going with "Zones and Hot Spots" only and un-checking "Object Detection" .

Sorry, I wasn't clear.....the image above was with the ANALYZE WITH MOTION DETECTOR enabled. It doesn't tell me much. Was wondering if there is a more detailed debug log or tool.

You need to turn high "highlight motion" for the camera, even if only when playing the clip back.

Hmm, I have both Highlights and rectangles enabled. Lemme turn on HIGH DEFINITION.

Have you got ONVIF enabled as well?

Yes, but the log shows this as a MOTION_ABC triggered event.

Are you using object detection or just using it for scene lighting changes?

Shut down the object detection other than "reset detector when". Do the motion detector in the motion detection tab. 50 pixels is a really small distance in even a 2MP camera.

Okay, you've completely lost me now...LOL.

There's a motion detection tab somewhere? Got a screen shot for me?

I started this thread with "Now I remember why I abandoned BI motion detect triggers a long time ago....I don't think I'll ever understand how they work, LOL!"

Still a mystery to me. Regardless of it's 50 pix or 200 pix of movement, the moving object never crosses from Zone B to Zone C and the sun is positioned such that shadows are directed away from Zone C....or do I need another rum-n-coke to get this to make more sense?

After another sip of rum-n-coke, I'm coming to the conclusion that what I'm not seeing is what BI sees using the substream.

Try eliminating things one at a time. Shut off ONVIF first and see if the false triggers disappear. If not, leave it off and shut of motion detection. See if that eliminates the false triggers. If not then start playing with the object size, or maybe switch from simple to edge vector.

I did away with zone crossing a while back because it just didn't seem reliable to me. It would work in one direction, say left to right, but not in right to left. I just use a single zone and look for motion in that. The KISS principal.

Yup, the rum is really kicking in now.....Money shot!

Here's the substream captured video with an overlay of Zone C very close to the trigger time. I wonder if I has this set Object Travel to 100 or 200 pix instead of 50 if this would have still triggered.
