thanks, good info. Seems weird it is almost fixed at 800kbps, essentially acting as CBR.

does the bitrate change if you reduce fps or “max” bitrate?
Sorry for late reply, I had one of those I know I had something to do moments and it was to test your questions...got busy...anyway...

The first picture is 20FPS and MAX 6144 bitrate...
For the TEST I lowered the FPS in half to 10 and restarted the DB in BI...NO CHANGE in bitrate,
then I dropped the bitrate in half 3072 and restarted the DB...last I set the MAX bitrate at 1024

TEST:

So changing the MAX bitrate does work in setting (MAX) thresholds in the bitrates, changing the FPS did not change the bitrate...

This makes sense and it is how it should work. The frame rate should not affect the bitrate.

Yep thanks for the tests so looks like it is working as expected. I am convinced to get this just waiting on availability

Since I have a working Smart DB, I have not been in a rush to run the cable needed for this and permanently install it. I can say my bench testing so far has brought very promising results. If I were in the market for my first Smart DB I would definitely chose this one. I probably should of bought the WiFi version too and just did my bench testing by replacing my existing LaView (EZVIZ DB1 variant) I would assume many people are like me and do not have a cable ran.

Since I have two other DBs I bought while they were on sale (EZVIZ DB1 and EZVIZ DB1C) for possible replacements/spares, not sure if the wife would approve of me buying two more, haha When I bought this POE version I got questioned why I have so DBs :)

I have not mess with the DB for several days. I noticed some dropped signals so I checked the logs. I imported the data into Excel and sorted it by Camera (object) then by Event/Date (message/time). Sorry did not know how to include seconds in Excel import...
Anyway I am alarmed by all the Signal: network retry / Signal Failed to connect messages I found. I know some of these are me rebooting/changing settings but I have not touch the DB in several days...
I attached the Excel spreadsheet in case anyone wants to see my log. I have not noticed this on any of my other CAMs...

Here is an ex. from the Excel spreadsheet:

Ex. from BI log:

NOTE: DoorbellCAM is my LaView (DB1 variant) existing Doorbell. The highlighted Doorbell is the Reolink POE.

well thats no good wonder what is causing that.

it does restore in 3-4 seconds which i guess is a good thing

edit... its doing this every minute?

you think you would be able to see this watching the live view or pre recorded footage

Yeah, was a shock when I looked deeper into the logs. I usually just look at the Status. The 3 NoSignal just popped up over the last few days. Well 2 more added to 1 signal loss I saw. I don't have a lot of knowledge with BI.

I do have 1673924602334.png Unchecked...

can u go back and watch the recorded video at those times it says no signal. do you see a glitch in the video and do you see the time stamp jump.

I have watched live and checked recordings, I have not noticed anything, but I only have it benched so no movement unless I create movement. I did have it pointing to a fan.

So I just went back and watched about 3 minutes of today's recording, No Glitch, the video recording looked good.

1673925377192.png

So I looked at the log up till 9pm for today and I did not see anymore Signal: Failed to connect or Signal: network retry after the above Noon events. Looking through the log it seems sporadic. I will have to look for any patterns.

@David L interesting on your failed and reconnect. I am not seeing the same for mine.

I did find one reconnect that corresponds to my nightly DB compact routine, perhaps there is a similar maintenance routine that is resetting the connection?

you happy with this new doorbell? any issues u have found?

I think you said you are running POE correct?

just waiting for the re-stock, and will be a nice late Xmas present for myself. Even though my DB1C is working fine, this will be nice since i already have cat6 POE to the doorbell location.

I see you have 3...

Notice your DB has a lot of Dog captures :)

I will be looking into why I have had so many on the DB and None on my other CAMs.

So I turned On 1673957474983.png on the Reolink DB.

That is the only settings difference I saw compared to my other CAMs. Let's see if that helps...

I updated my code a bit and can now talk to the doorbell (send audio to the doorbell). However, my code is quite messy and needs some restructuring :) Next step will be to see if I can send data / video / audio to a messenger app on the phone and make phone calls. Anybody any experience with Wire?

Yes I am happy and yes I am running POE. If you can run an ethernet cable for POE, I can't understand why anyone would go with WiFi. I had many more disconnects on my WiFi Lorex and that is all gone.

I am still holding out hope that Reolink will release a constant frame rate firmware like they did for their other cameras. We need some influencers to bad mouth them to convince them to act! :)

For the price, I can't think of a better alternative besides just installing a regular camera at your door and using a normal doorbell.
