ok just to follow up for others:
1. Prompt responses from CBX.
2. Ran this on my Chinese camera that I had already installed USA 5.1.6 on. Rebooted the camera. Everything came up in English and looks fine.
3. paid for and ran this on multiple Chinese cameras and all works fine.

This was easy.

So, US serial # do not have CCCH in them? Same thing for EU? etc.

What happens if Hikvision institutes some type of serial check for firmware upgrades?

I may need to get this tool at some point, as just checking my 4 serials have CH in them ... should have known!

I already thought of this and address this point in the FAQ - here it is so you don't have to read the whole FAQ (I know it's boring - I wrote it! :p)

Q Change I change the serial number, mac address, other parameters?:

No. I prefer to respect HikV as much as possible so this is not currently offered whilst there is no justifiable reason.

Q What about if I put old or new firmware on?:

This is different to the camera region setting. So no problem - region is still what you changed it to.

It's theoretically possible that the manufacturer could releases updates in the future which cross reference your serial, mac address with the region they think it should be, but you can always revert the change before upgrading should that be needed.

At that point the issue of changing such parameters could be revisited.

I totally agree.

Updated to English version by using program and instructions supplied by CBX.

The update was quite simple, and if anything is unclear, CBX can assist.

The camera works fine after the update so I am glad I used this method.

I had the same positive experience and can echo these words. The good news is that even a Windows centric person like me was able to do the install without breaking into a sweat. Definitely money well spent.

I too shared a similar experience but only because CBX wove his skills and magic and thus my cameras are now updated using his excellent utility.

Many thanks

I also have to chime in, CBX pointed me to this topic from another forum and I had to sign up.

I just had him work his magic on my camera, and as it was on a very old firmware he took some time and updated it remotely for me.

I wouldnt hesitate to recommend him to anyone, and his price is very reasonable.

I'm another satisfied customer...

I bought 10 DS-2CD2232-I5 (EXIR bullet) from Aliexpress oblivious that they would be Chinese and have Firmware issues.
They had firmware 5.1.0 on them. I ran CBXs tool on all 10 and they all behave completely English now.
I used the Hikvision Batch Upgrade tool to upgrade all of them to 5.1.6. I'm still trying to decide if I want to move to 5.2.0 but I did test 5.2.0 on one camera and it worked great.

Words can't express how happy I am that this solution exists.

One important benefit to him keying the program to run on specific (your) serial numbers and not just freely giving this away means that the Chinese distributors won't get a hold of it and hack their cameras to sell them as English versions and I assure you they will. If that were to happen I guarantee that Hikvision would make further efforts to thwart it. Right now we have a solution that works for reasonable price.

Do you have any of the 2032 (non-EXIR bullet) models? I'm curious how they compare in price and night vision performance. And also if the EXIR reduces the frequency of bugs and spider webs in front of the lens?

By the specs and prices, it looks like the 2232 is about $30 more than the 2032, twice the size, 2 watts more power consumption, but a lot better at night vision.

That's a good question.
So as to not derail this thread, I'm going to start a new one and continue this discussion there.

Spoiler: the 2232 don't seem any better to me.

Just wanted to point,
that I have 2 Hikvision Chinese,
And I have used CBX solutions to get them both to English region, and he was of great help!
Very quick response to questions I had, great organised instructions and great result!!
Now, both Cameras are up to date at 5.2, and I don't need to learn Chinese :)

Thanks so much!

CBX,

I unwittingly upgraded the firmware on my DS-2CD2032-I to version 5.2 and now all of the menu items are in Chinese. The enable telnet menu selection appears to have been removed from this version and I have not been able to telnet to the camera. Will your patch work with this firmware version? What is the cost to purchase?

CBX,

Like many others have mentioned, your solutions worked absolutely awesome! Aside from saving a novice from the perils of potential Chinese paper weight, my 2032 works better than it ever had with the latest firmware and your adjustments. Very much appreciate your expertise and I now feel comfortable adding more of these devices to my network. I look forward to working with you again.

What fixes or enhancements have you made for the NVRs? In the European NVR firmware 3.0.9 they have allowed to enable the telnet. For example can we trigger the NVR recording upon line traversal detection?

Hi :)

Only the factory region is changed from Chinese to International. As for the improvements - hopefully this means you can put on firmware that is International (rather than Chinese) containing security fixes, improvements etc from the manufacturer.

CBX rocks. One hour from contacting him for first time, had my camera in english. I did send a good 7 emails with questions and he instantly responded every time. I can't be happier. Thanks.

I have a DS-2CD2132-I. I made the mistake of "updating" to the 5.2.0 firmware from the USA web site. Of course, all my menus are now in Chinese. As I look through the camera's storage via either telnet or ssh, I note the absolute absence of anything that might allow transfer of a file onto the camera. no scp, no ftp, can't mount it as a nfs share, nothing that I can find. What am I missing? Thanks to any who reply.
