I am on an old release 5 from end of 2022, mainly resisted upgrading due to problems with Deepstack, that is largely not in use anymore. About to switch BI install to Windows 11 Pro machine, wondered if there are any significant drops in CPU usage with later releases, yes I am fully optimised with sub streams and so on. Being a bit lazy here, appreciate any feedback.

I was able to pick up a used newer computer to me on ebay, so I run my trusty one with Deepstack and an older BI release like you as the daily and the new one as a backup and to play with CPAI and the other new BI stuff. It is on Win11 Pro and works fine.

Thanks, sounds promising and I know your opinion is money in the bank :thumb: - I have pretty much quit using Deepstack now and essentially just let the cameras motion do the work, just my use case but found deepstack was missing trivial items (wildlife!) which would normally get detected. I did train some Deepstack models but that just put way too much load on the system. I might try the latest release on this new Windows 11 machine while still in testing, before it gets put into proper service as the daily.

I'm thinkin if the new install is on new hardware with a new OS and a new instance of BI, the older build data might not be seen it as it's own offspring.
but im not certain. just a speculative theory

I have two systems running Blue Iris on Win 11 pro machines, no problems.
Are you finding any particular version/release which is more stable at all, I am on 5.8.8.8 at the moment, no particular reason, just the latest at time of initial install. Noticed a couple of gremlins when objects moves on particular camera, feed freezes then continues. I realise there is 'stable' release available, I also find that feedback from experienced users can sometimes be more stable :thumb:

Feed freezing can be for lots of reasons, usually network related.
I've been running 5.8.8.12 on my home system with no issues'.
Thanks for that, feed has been solid on existing system, I am network/IT support day job so tend to go overboard on that side

Good to hear you are using 5.8.8.12 and that seems solid, I will move to that later and see how it goes.

OK, I am going off my head here, system seemed ok yesterday morning, mid afternoon, yellow exclamation marks all over, feeds dropping briefly then back again, errors 'check fps and key rates', 'get events error' and so on. Reset network, switches, router, ripped out BI and installed again, checked time sync, never seen this before, always been solid in this area.

Playback of events is now lagging and jumping, some kind of bizarre network issue, just cannot see how it came from nowhere!

FPS/keyframes are lacking for main stream, frame rate and iframe always set to match in my cameras but still results below:

At this point it is can't see the wood for the trees scenario o_O

Oh my goodness, must have been a long week! somehow gigabit ethernet was not active, simple cable out and cable back in, away we go. How embarrassing, classic wood for the trees scenario though, I will leave here for future reference if any poor sole gets bitten. What did I say my day job was ... :wow::rofl: - the real question is how did this happen! much less painful when I am getting paid.

the real question is how did this happen!
Not knowing anything about your setup please take the following with a grain of salt! I am sure that the causes can be many, bad connection on the jack, momentary power glitch, cheap network switch, firmware glitch on switch, firmware glitch on cameras, are the cameras and switch on a UPS, nearby lightning strike etc.? You did not say which cable you had to reseat, perhaps the one from the BI system to the switch, if so then the BI PC NIC might also be suspect?

It is all HP Enterprise kit but yes indeed, could have been anything sadly, I think on this occasion I am going to blame the Hyper-V Manager Virtual Switch config, cannot really tie it in with much else. Cable I reconnected was Cat6 connecting BI computer to gigabit switch.

Looking better now!

Hopefully it might help someone else unfortunate enough to get tripped up at some point.

Hey guys and CC. I hope you don't mind me tagging along my question here. It was kind of similar to mine. sort of...

I've had quite a few power loses lately which ended up killing my windows 10 installation (windows wouldn't boot properly) so I reluntancly had to install windows 11 and start over. I had purchased BI back in late 2020 but I couldn't find the old installation setup file so I guess I will have to upgrade.
Should I just pay for the most recent version or continue trying to find my old setup file if possible. Also do we still have a discount code? It's only $80 but I would love to save anything i can! Thank you all.

I would not think that your issue is at all similar, just my opinion.

Do you have your original BI key, are you on a support contract? if not when did it expire, do you know the last version that was released prior to your support expiring? Is the hard drive from the old computer accessible or did you wipe it to install windows 11?

During installation I made sure to choose ‘keep files’ so it kept the old Windows and program files folder (Blue Iris 5). I guess that’s means the key file is in there’s.

The answer is Maybe! The license key is stored in the windows system registry not in the hard drive file system. Is BI still installed, or will you have to reinstall it, look for .reg files in the install folder and in C:\ProgamData\Blue Iris\temp and make backup copies of them before you reinstall, just to be safe! If you are familiar with the REGEDIT program you can look to see what is at this location "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Perspective Software\Blue Iris" You can also search the BI help files for "Software Settings" it has information that is worth reading (too long to post here)
