I got some new binoculars and spotted some deer from my back deck several hundred yards away on a hillside. I went and got my rifle to look through the scope at them. Body of one was just over a half mil tall from back to brisket. 1 mildot is ~3.6 inches at 100 yards. I did some math in my head and figured out the deer was 900~1,000 yards away. The 3 circled objects are deer (cell phone shot taken through my scope-- very hard to line up and focus is not good. The center is a big mule deer doe, and the other two are her fawns.
I checked Google Earth and measured the distance-- ~955 yards
Then I found this online calculator!-- very cool.

Max magnification is fuzzy, and the eyebox is very small there too. Will likely not take it above 20 or so anyway.
